Can you make RC respond faster?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Been using RC for a while now, but it annoys me that it responds so slow. You press a button, but only reacts after 3-4 seconds. I hope it's a fault on my side so I can solve it or has this to do with the program or FSUIPC?

Will a registered version of FSUIPC solve this?

Thanks!

Peter Aerts

I don't know too much about this but make sure you have unchecked the random chatter (RC interacts with AI is OK to leave on). 3-4 seconds is way too long a wait. Others will have more to say. No, you don't need a registered FSUIPC but if you spend the money you will not be sorry. FSUIPC can do many useful things.

If your processor is working 100% running FS then there aren't many spare cycles left for other software including RC. Do you have a spare PC? if so you could purchase WideFS and run RC on that. It can be a very low-specced PC.

Post your system specs and what version of FS you run.

The CPU is running at about 50%. It's a Macbook Pro from late 2007: 2.2ghz Core2Duo and a Geforce 8600M GT. Far from the best, but FS9 runs fine enough.

3-4 seconds is in the extreme cases, I have very very rare moments where it responds instantly, but this is only for one 'order' I give. About average it's 2-3 seconds.

Random AI chatter is unchecked, but to no avail.

Unfortunately no spare pc available.

I think it's just the way RC is coded. ATC commands or communications back and forth seem to go into a queue that have to replayed in the order they went in. So, if RC talks to another AC, you have to wait for that communication to complete before you can do anything else. Even switching comms between you and the co-pilot. If something else is going on, like communication between RC and another AI aircraft, you even have to wait for that to complete before you can switch comms to your co-pilot. I don't have the random AI chatter on so I can't comment on how that influences things, i.e. if it uses the same queue or not. Anyway, it's nothing you're doing wrong or nothing that your pc is doing wrong or not because it's too busy. Just the way RC works.

I feared this was the case... Even with AI traffic off it shows no improvement.

For good old sake I tried the default ATC that comes with FS9 this morning and although I liked the immediate responsiveness, I forgot how awful it was. I was still at 28.000 feet when it was already vectoring me in to line up with the runway and chose a VFR approach on a runway way too short for a Boeing 747...

I think this will require some input from JD. I would have imagined a MacBook Pro could process VB as efficiently as a Windows PC but he may know different.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

No problem Ray, any answer is assistance!

But this 'problem' only occurs with me? Or as klamal says, is it just the way RC is?

I mean, does everyone have a slight delay when pressing a button before RC reacts? Or does it work immediately (in the assumption it is not instructing any other aircraft at the time)?

Peter Aerts

I find it varies. Mostly the response is quick or instantaneous, usually when doing the basics like requesting weather or initial clearance but sometimes it has felt like far more than a 3 second delay, particularly when trying to change pages, as in trying to issue an emergency call.

Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. Win 10 Home. 500g Samsung 960 as Windows home. 1 Gb Mushkin SSD for P3D. GTX 1080 8gb.

There was on option that caused 3s delays in RC. I can't remember now what it was. I asked the same question when I got RC. It wasn't AI or random chatter related.

EDIT: It was the display text. Only enable it if you are not able to listen to what the controller says.

In XP all you have to do is open the ATC programme first then the sim. Before connecting the ATC programme to the sim call up WindowsTask Manager/Applications/Atc Programme. Right click go to process right click set priority/ above normal

And for stupid question number 1234, how can I achieve this? I don't see an option in the options section of RC4.

Number 1235, I assume you mean the priority of RC4?

Peter Aerts

I don't see an option in the options section of RC4.

You could search the manual for "display text". This should take you to page 112 and the screenshot of the options panel is on page 111. (if I have the current manual on my iPad. Otherwise the page numbers won't match)

Choose Options and under Other ensure 'Display Text' is NOT checked. It probably adds an overhead which may introduce delays.

Thank you! I forgot to mention the important part :)

For those who are intersted, here's what the manual says about this option "For the hearing impaired, choose „Display Text‟ and all messages from the controllers will be displayed in text."
