Apprehensive about Failures? NOT Anymore!

Featured Replies

My fellow NGX Captains/Crew.

If you're browsing through here still undecided about Emergency NGX!.......please read on:

When I first purchased the NGX in August 2011, I had read through the manual comprehensively. The fact that failures (and a plethora of them) were modeled was unbelievable.

However, I was apprehensive about tackling them due to the fact I'm a "one-man crew". How the hell do I tackle complex (and some simpler) failures without a First officer helping out?

And as we know in RW ops, this would not be the case!

Ergo, I never bothered with them. Until NOW......

When Bryan announced some time back that he was developing Emergency NGX! and some of it's features, I couldn't wait to give it a try. And being fortunate enough to Beta Test this

product for Bryan, it opened up a whole new level of immersion & education for me with respect to the NGX.

Now, after weeks of testing, I can say that I am no longer apprehensive about failures in the NGX as I have a dedicated First Officer to assist me and I have now learned how RW Pilots handle such situations.

This is truly a "trail-blazing" product. As the NGX became the Benchmark for Commercial Aircraft development in FSX, so does Emergency NGX! for Flight Crew emulation in FSX.

So, my message to you is:

Don't be concerned or apprehensive......Emergency NGX! is going to further your enjoyment & education of the NGX. Remember: RW Pilots contributed in a huge way to this product - there's no BS! It's the REAL DEAL.

* because this program is so NEW & DIFFERENT....try my procedure first:

I highly recommend learning this way: (this is how I did it during Beta testing)

1. Choose which failure you wish to try. (Look at the FS2 Crew manual - for first timers, don't shoot for a real complex failure. Go for a simpler one first)

2. Read the FS2 Crew Emergency NGX! manual carefully - ie: the failure have chosen, and see what YOU as Captain/Pilot Flying will have to Say & [A] do. By doing this, you are preparing yourself.

3. Open the PMDG QRH (Cyber or Hard Copy) and look at the procedure for the failure you want to try. (The Emergency NGX! manual tells you the specific section to look at in the QRH)

4. Once you've read the specific section in the manual & QRH, go ahead & start the NGX.

5. Have your Emergency NGX! manual next to you ready & open on the page detailing the specific failure & procedures.

6. Program (& initiate) the failure you want to try. ie: in the Air, or on the Ground - the manual will let you know when/where it's appropriate to initiate a specific failure

7. Take a deep breath, and follow the Emergency NGX! manual procedure. (You may make a little mistake in the beginning, but I assure you, that if you keep studying and trying - everything will come together for you quickly).

Let us know how you go!

have tryd hole day :( but still not get it,can some one help?:)

What part of it don't you understand ?

Glen

Loss of system B/A.Engigne Fire, Hyd failure,do i need to run PF and select FAIL on ? :)

and in the manual they say when (S) you must say the words, cant see the red line in the fs2crew bar,or blue line,or green.

if u have skype, maybe you can help me?:)

Sorry don't have Skype.

On the main FS2Crew Config panel select the 'Fail' button so it lights up, this selects the Australian Copilot voice (only one that works with the Emergency checklists).

You do not need to run PF, just set your aircraft up for a normal flight and taxy to the runway with everything setup for takeoff. Before takeoff from the FS2Crew main panel select BEFORE T/O in the phase window and ask the FO for the normal 'Before Takeoff' checklist, then the 'Enter Runway Procedure' checklist and take off (don't forget to say TAKEOFF as you stand the throttles up).

Once your happy with the aircraft flying on autopilot, go into the FMC PMDG Setup page (menu) and select <Aircraft then <Failures. Go to page 3 of 4 and select <Hydraulics then <Programmed then to page 3 of 3 and select EMDP A OVERHEAT. This then takes you to the ACTIVE or ARMED options, choose ARMED then enter the number 1 in the Minutes row and press EXEC on the FMC keypad.

Thats it, in 1 min you will get a Hydraulic pump overheat warning. Your FO will say "Master Caution Hydraulics" the you say "Check" and he turns off the yellow 'Master Caution' button. Follow the rest of the prompts in the Emergency NGX manual and at item 7 call for the "Hydraulic Pump Overheat Checklist" and he will read it from the QRH manual and operate any switches necessary.

Try the easy failures first before moving onto Engine Failures on Takeoff, they can be quite tricky which is why RW pilots earn shedloads of money.

Hope that helps

Thanks that was more Easyer to understand ! :D will try it right away!

but what about Pre flight Checklist or beforstart checklist, with out runing the PF that will not work?

NVM,work with out runing the PF! :)

You don't have to use those if you don't want to. Just make sure the aircraft is set-up for take off by selecting all the relevant switches yourself, then follow the procedure I detailed above

You don't have to use the Pre=Flight Checklist to use FS2Crew or Emergency NGX.
