XP10 x64 Help?

Featured Replies

This is a repost from my thread over at Pilot Edge forums:

Yes yes.... FSX fanboi here!

Now that I got that off my chest. I downloaded and setup the XP10 demo (64 bit) just to try out some night flying (I flew it for about 1 minute total last time I played). Wow. The night lighting with HDR and FXAA is incredible! I've got a few questions about XP in general:

1) If I wanted to buy the paid version where would I get it from? I don't care about global scenery because I only want it for Pilot Edge (socal) and USA flying.

2) In the default C172, my plane is pulling to the left while throttle is idle... almost like it's spinning about the yaw axis. This isn't left turning tendencies... it's on the ground with brakes on, no power (at least I think no power???) Help?

3) Default C172.... yikes the flight model is twitchy as heck. Now before you reem me out I don't have a lot of high wing time in real life. But I did fly one a few months ago (right seat), it was a 172N. And it WASN'T EVEN CLOSE to this XP version. The real one, in a trimmed setting, was exceptionally smooth and easy to handle. This leads me to believe it's a classic case of PEBKAC and hardware setup problem.

My hardware:

Microsoft sidewinder 2 FFB stick (without the FFB enabled)

CH throttle

Saitek Combat Rudders Pro

I've calibrated the axises and none are showing any twitchy problems. Do any of you XP masters have some tips or guidance on how to better setup the controls to get a smoother feel for the stock C172?

4) Seattle, in the demo, looks impressive. I know that the rest of the world is pretty much void of scenery (mainly airport scenery and specific sort of landclass that defines the geographical area) in the full version. At night, how are those void areas? Are there still roads based off of aeronautical charts like in real life?

5) Reality XP - Who uses either the 430W or 530W in XP10 64? Do they even work in 64 bit? This is extremely important to me since I fly almost all GA FSX planes, and they either have a Navigraph subscription or I'm RXP capable. Without up-to-date navdata I'm filing /A (or worse). And often I prefer small strips that are only served by RNAV (GPS) approaches in the real world.

6) Track IR plugins? I selected the default option within XP and found their TIR version to be super touchy and nothing like the FSX version. I can't tilt my head and wondering if 6DOF is modeled in XP? I can adjust my curves for sure but that won't solve the missing degree. What I'm really asking is: Are there any profiles better than default checkbox in XP10?

7) Since I saw the XP list of cool 3rd party scenery for socal I'll skip this question for now

8) 3PD Airplanes. I like going fast. Some of my favorite FSX GA planes are the RealAir Legacy, Turbine Duke, Baytower RV7A, A2A P51 Mustang Civilian, Flight1 Citation Mustang. Can you list some comparable XP10 planes? I enjoy eye candy and the plane should have at least acceptable night lighting in the VC (I don't like 2D panels except for the occasional popup). Carenado has some good models but I just read they aren't x64 compatible... yet.

Long list... but I wouldn't mind starting to fly on PE in XP10 x64 at night

Fast, try Classic Jet Simulations F-104, it's very good and not bad night lighting. Same with Javiers Javelin. But his CRJ-200 also goes like stink!

Well first of all, the PE software is not 64bit compatible yet...

Most countries are very detailed. Brazil is very detailed. Try São Paulo. Fly from SBSP to SBGR at night, with high scenery settings. #*&@ gorgeous!

At night, how are those void areas? Are there still roads based off of aeronautical charts like in real life?

The roads are based on Open Street Map data.

http://www.openstreetmap.org/

Basically, every road/highway/railway, plus terrain mesh, is depicted in the sim! In most countries! That's why x-plane comes in 8 double layer 8.5GB DVDs.

On places where you dont install the scenery from the DVDs, you see only water and the airport runways/taxyways. No roads.

This B727 is one of the best x-plane ACFT, if not the best. It flies by the numbers and has very stable flight model, along engine and hydraulic failures simulated. And is fast...

Eeek. That is a problem. I think they are working on it though... Seems a lot of developers are waiting for the lighting to be addressed in 10.21 (this is at least what I've read), and supposedly 10.21 is going to be a stable build for devs.

Thanks for the other responses.

I'm really interested in general aviation planes the cruise from 200-400 ktas. Also still wondering about my RXP questions and Track IR...

I see Amazon has a Regional pack for about $30. Does it contain the x64 version?

If you purchase X-Plane 10 it will be the 32bit version, however you just have to run the updater/installer and it will upgrade you to the 64bit version.

Also all upgrades are free.

Keep in mind, the regional pack only contains the US. You may already realize that, but I've seen people in the past mention they purchased it thinking it contained the entire world, and wouldn't want you to risk doing the same. :)

the regional pack is Canada, USA, Hawaii

1) If I wanted to buy the paid version where would I get it from? I don't care about global scenery because I only want it for Pilot Edge (socal) and USA flying.

If you care only about USA, you can buy the regional version at a reduced price (29,95$), for example here:

Hmm... Try to go to the "Operations and warnings" setting and increasing the "flight models per frame" to 2 or 3.

3) Default C172.... yikes the flight model is twitchy as heck. Now before you reem me out I don't have a lot of high wing time in real life. Go to "Joystick & Equipment"->"Nullzone" tab, and move the 3 right sliders to the far right. If it's still not enough, move the 3 left sliders too to right.

8) 3PD Airplanes. I like going fast. Some of my favorite FSX GA planes are the RealAir Legacy, Turbine Duke, Baytower RV7A, A2A P51 Mustang Civilian, Flight1 Citation Mustang. Now that the 10.20 release is final, you'll soon find more and more 3rd party aircrafts becoming 64 bit compatible. Have a look at the x-plane.org store for some nice aircrafts. The quality is variable there, so have a look at the preview screenshots/videos so you can make up your idea on what is the final quality of the specific aircraft. Also, x-aviation.com has nice quality aircrafts.

Thanks for that...

Also there is a Pilot Edge client x64 beta out in case anyone needs the info:

http://forums.pilote...php?f=12&t=2440

Also I ended up buying the regional version off amazon... about $21 after promotional stuff - I rarely fly outside of the US in FSX I won't in XP10

Hopefully it works alright!

I am also flying on PE with X-Plane (Mac, for which there is no 64bit beta of the PE plugin yet). I do not know which planes have you decided for, but I would suggest to get the Rollon's Jetstream J32, his T34 Mentor, any Carenado.

May I also suggest photoscenery fro Realscenery, their upcoming NorCal looks truly amazing: http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php/topic/4535-norcal-scenery-preview-january-16th-2013/

SimAVIO is good to check out as well: http://www.flythissim.com/products.aspx
