March 4, 201313 yr Hi Folks, I've been struggling with screenshots on my new Win7 x64 build for months... I've tried about 4 different screenshot programs and they all have the same issue - when I hit the printscreen button - that works in fullscreen mode on everything else - when in FS9 it takes a picture of my desktop like MSFS is not even there... If I switch FS9 to window mode - the screenshots work fine - but - I don't care to use window mode because i lose my anti-alias and the windwow frame takes up real estate... If I bring up the menu while in full screen mode [alt key] I can take the shot but then I have the menu bar taking up real estate... I've tested this on both my desktop and laptop - both Win7 x64 - and they both have the same result... Are full screen screenshots IMPOSSIBLE with Win7 x64 FS9 ??? Regards, Scott
March 4, 201313 yr I don't know what is going on for you or how to fix it, but no, full-screen screenshots are not impossible in Win7x64. That's what I'm running and I've taken some great screenshots! One question, though. Are you using the enb module with your copy of FS? If so, that might be your problem. The enb module functions as a screenshot program, too. It saves the images to your fs root folder (the same directory the module is in) and may be stealing the image from any external programs...
March 4, 201313 yr You can disable the screenshot fonction in the ENBserie.ini (if this is the source of problem .. of course!) [iNPUT] KeyUseEffect=123 KeyBloom=120 KeyOcclusion=121 KeyReflection=122 KeyCombination=16 KeyScreenshot=44 disable this KeyShadow=119 KeyWater=118 KeyShowFPS=106
March 4, 201313 yr Author Morn'n Guys, While I've used ENB in the past - I've never used it on these boxes... I've also removed all the screen capture programs and hit "print screen" and the image saved to the windows clipboard is the same result I had using the screen capture programs... Just a picture of my desktop like FS9 wasn't running... Two machines - identical issue - strange... Regards, Scott
March 4, 201313 yr I to have the same problem with FS9 and X but there is a work around. When your in full screen mode, press Alt to bring up the menu at the top, then press Alt again to make it go away and then you can take a full screen screen shot. March 5, 201313 yr Hi Scott: You may also wish to try CaptureWizPro:  http://pixelmetrics.com/ http://pixelmetrics....izPro/index.htm CaptureWizPro has been around for years, is very well written, and is recommended by a number of experienced FS scenery builders for compatibility with FS and other Windows applications. CaptureWizPro offers a number of options, including the ability to scroll screens and capture portions of the screen which are outside of the immediate viewing area of a window having horizontal and/or vertical scroll bars, and can output to a number of different image file formats. When selecting ones desired capture area one can adjust the selection rectangle size by increments as little as 1 pixel at a time ...if needed. Whereas FireShot works well as an Add-in specifically for Mozilla FireFox to capture web pages, CaptureWizPro works with just about any Windows program as a screen capture utility, and is compatible with Win7 64-bit. Hope this might work for you ! GaryGB
March 5, 201313 yr Author Hi Folks, No Joy... Same deal with the ALT key... All I get is an image of my desktop... I tried Greenshot ( a great GPL screenshot program ), Screen Hunter, and some other one... Man - so frustrating - I'll try the one's mentioned above as well... I think it's more than the screenshot program - though - I uninstalled them all and tried to hit Print Screen - captures the screen to the windows buffer and pasted it into a paint program - same result... Thanks for the help - folks... Regards, Scott
March 6, 201313 yr Hi Scott: Bearing in mind that on some systems FS9 'freaks out' when set in full-screen view at a resolution which does not match the desktop resolution, I did a few tests (while making sure that my FS9 resolution matched my desktop resolution). Note: I am using a Radeon HD 7970 on a 2-monitor system with large format CRT graphics monitors, and I extend my desktop onto the 2nd monitor; FS9 was run in full-screen view on my primary monitor. I tried a screen capture of a full-screen FS9 session in Win7 64-bit using <Ctrl> + <PrtScrn> and got an image which was mostly my blue desktop background with part of my FS9 screen. I then tried the default Win7 64-bit "Snipping Tool" in the "Full" screen capture mode, and got an image which was mostly a black background with part of my FS9 screen. Next I used CaptureWizPro for a full-screen FS9 session, and was able to grab the entire screen at my current matching desktop and assigned FS9 resolution of 1280 x 960 pixels. I subsequently reconfigured my desktop and assigned FS9 resolution so that they (again) matched each other at 1600 x 1200 pixels. Once more, I used CaptureWizPro for a full-screen FS9 session, and was able to grab the entire screen at my current (matching) 1600 x 1200 pixels resolution. BTW: Overall quality of the screen capture image at 1600 x 1200 pixels image was better than the 1280 x 960 pixels image. So, in my Win7 64-bit tests, CaptureWizPro was able to perform as I wanted it to. PS: Set CaptureWizPro for a full-frame capture, switch back to FS9 in full screen view; then press <PrtScrn> key (without also using either <Ctrl> or <Alt> keys); paste into desired graphics app if you opt not to use the viewer within CaptureWizPro itself. :Nerd: Hope this info helps with your own tests of available Win7 64-bit screen capture utilities. GaryGB
March 6, 201313 yr Author Hi Gary, I didn't get to mess with this last night - I'll try again tonight with that program you are recommending... Something must have changed with Win7 x64 because I have two machines with the exact same issue - and - I don't recall any issues with screenshots when using 32 bit Vista or XP... Thanks for always doing your due diligence while troubleshooting problems... As much as you help folks out - I don't know how you find the time to fly... Oh Yeah - I much prefer the 4:3 aspect monitors and I always use 1600x1200 on both my monitors and in FS9... Regards, Scott
March 7, 201313 yr Author Hi Gary, I had all kinds of issues with Capturewhispro - when it was running and I started a session with FS9 - it was minimized as that little yellow bar - FS9 would go nuts... It would just start flashing until I could finally get it to stop by repetitive ALT key presses and entry into SLEW mode... Did numerous reboots with the same result... I'm just having no luck with this... Regards, Scott
March 7, 201313 yr Hi Scott: Oops... very sorry for not also mentioning that I too had the same initial symptoms of FS9 "freaking out", apparently due to the little minimized strip of CaptureWizPro showing beneath the "full screen" FS9 task session. BTW: The first time that happened in Win7, I was wondering if I should instead refer to that utility as "Capture Whiz Pro" ! But don't give up yet... there's a solution:  Thankfully you also are using 2 monitors on an extended desktop as I do, so: A.) Click that little yellow strip of CaptureWizPro to 'maximize' it to its full mini-window size B.) Drag CaptureWizPro onto your 2nd monitor's extended desktop for use That should remove CaptureWizPro from beneath a full screen session of FS9, and allow you to stop FS9 from "freaking out" as described in the following steps: 1.) Set CaptureWizPro for a "Full" screen capture 2.) Swap back to FS9 in full screen mode, and click on that FS9 screen to stabilize it ...and thereby stop it from "freaking out" 3.) Press <PrtScrn> key on your keyboard 4.) You should get a FS9 full screen image into CaptureWizPro's viewer, and IIRC, can also paste a copy into ex: MS Paint etc. Hope CaptureWizPro now works successfully for you without too much additional tinkering. GaryGB
