Google Earth

How can I upload Flight plans to Google Earth. I currentl have Flight Sim Commander, and it has the option of saving flight plans to Google. How will I be able to open them in google and where are they saved?

Thanks

Probably not the best place to ask that question (a better place would be FSCommander's fora).

...but if it's dumping out a KML/KMZ, open Google Earth, drag the file into Google Earth's folder structure (in the program on the left side), and it'll offer to import it.  Check the box to view.  Done.

There's probably another way, but that's just the one I know off of the top of my head.

Yes, maybe better in another subforum.

However, i think something like a flight-recorder that records your flight with all its data and makes it visible in Google Earth would be awesome for the 777X (and of course an item for a future SP of the NGX). I think everybody using the AEX knows what im talking about....

That's something that could easily be implemented by an external developer, without requiring this development team to distract itself from its more specialized goals.  Sites like vataware are already doing similar by grabbing data from VATSIM's servers to compile your flown route.  This data communication is accomplished by a third party tool like FSInn or SquawkBox, which are tools doing exactly what you're describing, only not in KML/KMZ format.

TL;DR:

That's not really what PMDG does.  Others can easily do it without even getting into the code of a particular aircraft, which is ideal as it is then aircraft independent.

Just a thought, not sure if it's what you are looking for, but I found a program that records my flight path and imposes it on Google Earth.  I have used it for about 3 years, it's called FS Earth.  It records your flight path on the fly, allowing you to view your path as you fly, including nearby AI aircraft, and you even have the option of saving the map for viewing later!

I love to fly real world routes using flights from flightaware.  Look up any flight, and you will see an option to download the Google Earth .kml file of that flight.  I open that .kml file in Google Earth, and then run FSX, and FS Earth will superimpose my FSX flight path on top of it.   This is great for seeing how close you are to matching the real world flight path, something I take pride in trying to approximate when I fly.  See this screenshot below, this is from a KLAX to KSFO flight last year in the NGX.   See how I even executed a sort of half S turn during the approach, not sure if this was done by the real world counterpart, but in the NGX -800 I found I really needed to do this to give myself extra time to descend and slow down before intercepting the FAF, because the -800 is so slippery it was very difficult to intercept the FAF at the correct altitude given the STAR procedures.   Even with full speedbrakes and gear down, I had a bit of a challenge, and this screenshot is evidence of that!

I like to keep memories of my flights, and I find saving screenshots and these FSearth Google Earth captures is great for my flight sim "scrapbooking"

Anyhow, this program may be what you are looking for.

We don't have a specific forum for FS Commander, but I'll be more than happy to move this to the FSX forum for you.

yep. I already do keep track of position for my own personal uses with a logger I wrote and I do consider to eventually extend it to export to .kml and to log NGX significant events e.g. AP states.

I may one day decide to do it and to release it to the unsuspecting public.
