March 14, 201313 yr I use REX+ textures but use the native FSX weather engine. It is usually spot on for my GA flying, but today it has not even been close. For instance this morning FAA/NOA weather for Bloomington, IN (KBMG) was clear, temp -2C, winds from 240 at 7, and altimeter 30.34. I loaded WX in FSX and it came back with 1200 overcast, light rain, winds 110 at 3, and altimeter 29.79. I flew to Chicago Midway (KMDW), overflying Lafayette, IN (KLAF), in the process. I checked FSX ATIS at KLAF and compared it to real world via my smart phone. Same increments of discrepancy. Similar issue at KMDF. I waited several hours, rebooted, and loaded FSX just to check real world weather again. I loaded KBMG first. Was well off from real world. I then checked Orange County, CA (KSNA). Then Easton, MD (KESN). None are close. This is the first time I have had this experience. Has anyone else flown in the US with FSX weather today who can share experience? March 15, 201313 yr FSX weather has been off for a few weeks now. Many are going to 3rd party weather programs either free or pay.
March 15, 201313 yr Author Hummm! I flew 8 times in the past two weeks, the most recent a flight from KYIP (Wayne, Michigan) to KBMG (Bloomington, IN) on Monday and the weather was spot on for those flights. I do my flight planning on a real world site and the FSX weather, barometer, terminal forecasts, and winds aloft have been amazingly accurate. March 15, 201313 yr I am surprised the service lasted past the "End of Life" and "no more game spy" events of last year. Truthfully, MSFS will die off. In fact, I'd get another install disc if I were you. THANK <INSERT YOUR DEITY HERE> that we have both FSUIPC and SimConnect. These, and the very good SDK, are the ONLY reasons we might still be tinkering with MSFS for the balance of the decade. Microsoft has well and truly turned their backs on us. March 15, 201313 yr Author ahuimanu, I guess thank you, but, well that does zero to address my question. It had been great up until Tuesday. My question is for other users who have had direct experience the past day or two. I had no intent to provide a bully pulpit for naysayers about other issues. March 15, 201313 yr I've had weather drop outs in FSX several times in the past 2 years for a full day at a time but since I use mainly Active Sky, etc I haven't been concerned. I think you may have dropped into the temporary FSX twighlight zone which you can esily prove if you try a different live weather program - just to confirm its was not your internet connection. Ron W
March 15, 201313 yr ahuimanu, I guess thank you, but, well that does zero to address my question. It had been great up until Tuesday. My question is for other users who have had direct experience the past day or two. I had no intent to provide a bully pulpit for naysayers about other issues. I offered a perspective and my response was on topic; bully pulpit and things notwithstanding. The point is to expect this service to evaporate and consider moving to a FSUIPC and/or SimConnect-based alternative. Perhaps I don't address your acute short-term ailment, but I do touch on the long-term (potential/likely) problem. March 15, 201313 yr Author Same this morning but it is clear to me that it is stuck on the same weather. My previous flight with accurate weather was on this past Monday and ended with an OOM crash to desktop. Is there a cache file for the native FSX weather engine that might be getting in the way? My previous flight with accurate weather was on this past Monday and ended with an OOM crash to desktop. Is there a cache file for the native FSX weather engine that might be getting in the way? i don't think there is any cached info, maybe try going into the sim, setting clear skies weather, and then set it back to downloaded, see if it updates.. cant offer much more input since i don't use the built in weather anymore either cheers -andy crosby
March 20, 201412 yr Author Wow! What is this? Cold Case? It has been over a year since my post that is now again being responded to. Here is what I found. First, I have moved to the addon FS Global Real Weather. I made the switch late last year. The native FSX weather was very good, when it was live. But it seemed to be active for several days, then go static for long periods. It was hit and miss. I use Real Environment Extreme + (REX E+) for textures, but in my experience the REX E+ was not all accurate for winds aloft. In my experience those winds aloft could be off as much as 60 degrees and 50% from real. I use real-world real-time flight planning for my flights, and when my FSX winds aloft are not accurate then elements of the flight plan are diminished. Second. FS Global Real Weather has solved the problems for me. The weather it provides is very accurate, as are the winds aloft. I compare winds aloft to what is forecast on my flight planning site, and to the winds aloft charts at the NOAA site: http://aviationweather.gov/adds/winds/ Frank Patton Corsair 5000D Airflow Case; MSI B650 Tomahawk MOB; Ryzen 7 7800 X3D CPU; ASUS RTX 4080 Super; NZXT 360mm liquid cooler; Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR5 4800 MHz RAM; RMX850X Gold PSU;; ASUS VG289 4K 27" Display; Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo, Crosswind 3's w/dampener. August 2, 201411 yr I noticed FSX's Real World Weather has been frozen for the past 2 months this summer. I was doing flying from KJFK and it is always heavy overcast with the same exact winds and directions since early June. For KSLC, it has been nothing but rain for the past 3 weeks. Cray Foley
