April 4, 201313 yr Every time someone talks about a good thing in FSX or P3D, it's not FSX or P3D itself, it's an add-on: A2A, ORBX, RealAir, PMDG, Level-D... We all love add-ons, not a "nude" flight simulator. It's easy to find a lot of very high quality add-ons for X-Plane. You'll not find as much products as for FSX, but there must be somewhere a GA, a liner, a scenery, or a plug-in that will make you like using X-Plane. Where and what did you search for now ? Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
April 4, 201313 yr Yep........ Baaaaa...... (like a sheep) when it comes to this flying on rails, stuff. Besides, I asked my wife who has lots of GA right seat time, if this fluid magic carpet feel of X-Plane seemed real. She didn't think so. I agree, it is more like the magic carpet concept.......except no associated G forces.
April 4, 201313 yr Has this thread not died yet? It's another typical one with a title that makes you think the OP really wants to like the sim. Posts at 11.25 and just under three hours later has decided the sim is not for him. Then as tradition dictates we compare fsx with XP for a couple of pages. Time to give up on this one?
April 4, 201313 yr Has this thread not died yet? I agree. This one should have been locked down long ago.
April 4, 201313 yr Consistant locking at the org. works well. Over there, FSX is abandoned and dead, with no farther development. And it flies on rails......too!
April 4, 201313 yr I am not asking for anything to be locked but the thread seems to go on for no useful purpose anymore. I am certainly not saying this from an xp lover/ fsx hater POV. Anyone who has seen my posts over time should know thats not who I am. So while I am not any super lover of XP I just don't see the point of these threads.
April 4, 201313 yr In a more serious note, I do enjoy many of the videos shown on this forum. They showcase what XP is capable of. I was even hoping that the Saab situation was truly a joke. Glad it was, as I wouldn't want to see development at a stop. Of course, I'll continue to disagree about particular flight model comparisons. Threads need to stay open for that. Slowly typed on IPhone...
April 4, 201313 yr Sure, I agree a lot of this stuff is bogus i.e. flight models etc. I use a lot of sims but I have all but given up trying to convince people that don't want to know. Even though I sympathise from the FSX side with some of the claims made by XP I think the OP was not serious in his post and was looking for a thread just as it developed. Thats what I dont see the point in.
April 5, 201313 yr Yeah same here I enjoy looking at X Plane videos and screenshots, that night Sau Paulo video was such a stunner - nothing in FSX comes close. Why can't we enjoy both sims?
April 5, 201313 yr That's what I always say. Enjoy both...or more. There is just too many planes and sceneries for me to be content or wishing that future additions will get here quickly. PS. Even though I complain about the org., I even enjoy reading some of their information forums too.
April 5, 201313 yr PS. Even though I complain about the org., I even enjoy reading some of their information forums too. Absolutely, however there is no reason for the Avsim, X-Plane dedicated forum be any different. Plenty of knowledgeable people in here that can contribute as much as anywhere else.
April 5, 201313 yr There is also a lot of misinformation at the org. It's very apparent that some of the knowlegeable people in regards to X-plane ,know far less about FSX , than they think. This why I'd hate to see the same here, or at Flightsim com. A short example is the fluidity of gauges. One might think that they don't exist for FSX, yet they've been available as payware and freeware for years.
April 5, 201313 yr There is also a lot of misinformation at the org Thing is Larry, this is the Avsim, X-Plane forum. What may be discussed over there has no bearing on what is said over here. I'm glad Avsim has allowed us this window into the X-Plane world. Let's just stay on subject, X-Plane, warts and all...lol
April 5, 201313 yr What it all boils down to (isn't there always someone who has to sum it all up?, ha ha) is a lot of people (mostly men) spending a lot of money (which not many of us don't have) trying to fool the mind into thinking it's doing something it's not. My wife is always asking me, "Wouldn't it be better to spend all that money learning to fly a real plane?" Well, yeah, it would, I guess, but that would open an even bigger money pit than flight simming. I know; been there. So, what is the attraction? I use FSX, and now that I have a computer powerful enough to "fool" me, I have "real" clouds over my head (OpusFSX), "real" recognizable scenery under my feet (Megasceneryearth), real displays in front of me (ProjectMagenta CRJ glass cockpit), buttons and knobs at my fingertips in the right place (GoFlight modules stack), and real voices in my head (Squawkbox and VATSIM). There's just something, as I tell my wife, "cool as heck" about climbing into the CRJ, planning a flight, punching it into the FMC, having GSX get the plane ready and boarded, startup and pushback, getting live ATC directions with Squawkbox from takeoff to landing and watching the sky and ground go by. I don't know, maybe it's the mental exercise, the fiddling of knobs and buttons, the doing it right, the takeoff, the landing.... it's just cool as heck. Would it be better in XP10? Maybe. But it doesn't need to be. For an hour or so of "this is cool" time during the day (I couldnt imagine myself sitting there staring at a computer-generated world for the time it takes to fly from London to New York), FSX does just fine. Then I get up and get out on my bicycle and get on with my life. Hmmmm, maybe it's time for a bicycle simulator. Naaaah.
