Scenery.CFG File Error

Featured Replies

After a battle getting "squawk box" to install, I now get the following message.

Scenery.CFG file error. Local scenery directory (Addon Scenery\SCENERY) in scenery area.115 not found. Click OK to continue

Clicking OK allows the FSX to continue. Any idea what has caused this and can it be fixed.

It means you uninstalled a scenery and it did not remove the information about it from your scenery.cfg.  Your working scenery.cfg is located in C:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX.  Just double-click it and edit the config and remove area 115 then renumber the areas/layers below that.  I use a freeware program called SceneryConfigEditor (Google) and it does this automatically (looks for errors and fixes them).

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim - have easily found scenery area.115

Hmm I have not knowingly removed any add on scenery. Wondering what it was and why then I am getting this message. It is strange that I was planning to delete and add some airports today! Now I am holding on that until I sort this out.

{Area.115}

Title=Addon Scenery

Local=Addon Scenery

Layer=115

Active=True

Required=False

I means that the default Addon Scenery folder has been deleted.

I means that the default Addon Scenery folder has been deleted.

Not to be too pedantic, but it could mean that the scenery folder in Addon Scenery has been deleted, yet the Addon Scenery folder still exists. Not exactly the same thing, yet significant to someone who doesn't understand the difference.

But  what does this actually mean to me when viewing the sim - has my addon scenery been deleted or some part of it? Not at my FS computer at the moment so can't check.

Only you would know what is on your computer.

That entry only affects <install path>\FSX\Addon Scenery\scenery.

If you have <install path>\FSX\Addon Scenery\ <other addons> and the files are still physically there, they would not be affected. One would think they are OK if you are not seeing other missing Scenery Areas warnings.

You have deleted, renamed or moved <install path>\FSX\Addon Scenery\scenery.

If you ran an uninstaller that had placed files in that location it may have deleted the folder as part of the uninstall.

If you did delete that folder and it is not in your recycle bin then you have lost any files that were in that folder.

Joe,

Thank you for your reply. I had to uninstall a version of squawkbox last night that I was adding. It was after this the warning message appeared. No sign of any addon scenery folder in my recycle bin (there is stuff there since last December!!). I guess i will just have to see if anything is missing as I fly.

Thanks again

Bill
