March 29, 201313 yr Is there a way to keep the sound in vc cockpit constant instead of varying when you use the hat switch when view panning? Some of my aircraft have the sound of the engine constant when panning and I have compared the aircraft .cfgs but cannot see any differences between them. When flying Just Flight's Spitfire Mk V and view forward you can hardly hear the engine at all unless you pan slightly left or right of centre, its very annoying. I get the same effect in spot view with a lot of sound stuttering. Any ideas? Nigel
April 21, 201313 yr Author A deafeniing silence was heard, so there is no sound experts out there then!!
April 21, 201313 yr What are your sound card settings? And your FSX sound settings? I had a similar problem when my card was accidentally changed from stereo to quadraphonic. John Hubbard MSFS2020 - Win10
April 21, 201313 yr What you are experiencing is a sound cone implemented to add to the realism. It may be in the hard code of the model, such as is the case with the Spitfire, I believe. I don't think there is any way to change that for most of the planes that implement it.
April 21, 201313 yr Moderator Check in the aircraft's ..\sound folder and the sound.cfg file. You can edit all of the external and internal sound parameters from there... Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
April 22, 201313 yr Author Here's just a couple of examples from the Just Flight Spitfire sound .cfg, there are quite alot of them:- [COMBUSTION.1.00]filename=spitfire_rpm1flags=0viewpoint=1rparams=0.000000,0.989000,0.264000,1.097000vparams=0.000000,49.000000,0.002000,39.200000,0.146000,46.400000,0.234000,14.400000,0.350000,0.000000,1.000000,0.000000,1.000000,0.000000,1.000000,0.000000link=COMBUSTION.1.01ConePitch=0.000000ConeHeading=0.000000InsideConeAngle=360OutsideConeAngle=360OutsideConeVolume=10000[COMBUSTION.1.01]filename=spitfire_rpm2flags=0viewpoint=1rparams=0.227000,0.989000,0.500000,1.162000vparams=0.000000,0.000000,0.060000,0.000000,0.169000,18.400000,0.238000,57.600000,0.400000,63.200000,0.500000,22.400000,0.623000,0.000000,0.905000,0.000000link=COMBUSTION.1.02ConePitch=0.000000ConeHeading=0.000000InsideConeAngle=360OutsideConeAngle=360OutsideConeVolume=10000 What I require is the definition of these Cone headings so I know which ones to adjust correctly to get a even sound pitch in the cockpit. I understand Cone volume but Headng, Cone Pitch,Inside Cone Angle???

April 22, 201313 yr Yeah, like I was saying, you can fiddle with the parameters of the cone (direction, etc), but I don't think you can change the fact that there is a cone, i.e., that the sound will vary with direction, through the settings in the .cfg.
April 23, 201313 yr Commercial Member Yeah, this took my a while to figure out when I did a custom sound mod for the Leonardo Maddog. The way I did it (minor though it was) was to vary the vparams parameter which adjusted the volume at different points of the "cone", which I don't know how to edit directly. It may be coded inside of FSX, I just don't know for sure. The information at the link below, when combined with the info in the first thread posted, will give you a place to start. Each aircraft is different, so it's broad tweaking to get to know the sound set, and then fine tuning it to what you want it to be. This is a pain because you have to restart FSX each time. Back up, back up, back up your original files! I wish you luck with it! April 23, 201313 yr I think I'd just stop flying those planes, myself. Or ask the developer to fix the problem.
April 23, 201313 yr Author Thanks for your input gents and the info, there is more to this that meets the ear!! At least I've got a starting point to try and experiment with the sound .cfg.
