Simple Rain..

Featured Replies

First of all, i nkow the limitiation of the FSX/SP2, the Animations on the NGX etc.

time ago a freeware update of the default 737 came up on simflight http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?248622-Alejandro-Rojas-Lucena-has-done-it-again!! it got a Windshield Rain and a working Wiper. For me and i bet for others too is this fully enough. Only somthing happens on the windshield, and i have something to do... .

So my question is if is this possible to put this on the future 777 and the NGX or on other AddOns? I didnt understand mutch about layers, mipmaps but i know whatt they are and maybe someone can me a bit explain how this animation on this freeware update works.

I post in the 777 forum also for my mention to the devloper that i dosent need a Rain Effect like on the J41.

By memory, and I may be mistaken here, but I think that, for PMDG's NGX, it pretty much came down to "The ability to have a HUD/HUGS, or rain, not both, and not even the option to swap between one or the other".

I certainly would pick the HUD over rain.

And that's even from someone who loves the rain effect in the JS41.

Yes, you are right a HUD like in the NGX is a realy helpfull and a as real as get goodie, but how i say i dont talk about a animation like in the j41. My thought was that the application on the windshield in this freeware was more a Paint or texture work since the raindrops are not animated.

The same i saw it on the freeware 747-8i with a custom VC who have same.

I know 100% that we never see this animation Raindrops from PMDG again and that is ok while i flying i dont like to watch the raindrops like im high or so. Only the smaller outside view and the movement of the wipers.

I recomend every one who not know from what i talk about to do a search an avsim for "FSX Boeing 747-8i Virgin Galactic" or look on the image via the link below.

It is a just a texture on the windshield and another one when the wipers are move. Or take i this wrong?

Maybe it was on everyone self to add this on his plane, like engine smoke or new canopy reflection -edit somtething in the .cfg and add this rain texture. Please help me if i wrong.

I hoped that maybe Ryan can help me here, since the rain question came up very often but i never read about the design from the Rain, and this one is freeware...

I don't know how many animations VC rain takes to create, but there are a number of much less useful internal animations I would gladly swap for it, including:

Pilot seat positions

Arm rest positions

Head rest positions

Yoke memo switches

I thought FSX doesn't allow window rain effects?

More of an FS9 thing, and left out in FSX?

It can be done in FSX but requires additional custom animations in the model. It's in the J41 for example (that also has internal misting of the windscreen).  Also VC rain effects in FS9 models ported to FSX still work, for example the Wilco 737 PIC..

How about copying the FS9 files over to FSX?

I think it is in this case more Texture Layer (.dds) put on the Repaint as on the Model. The other question is how it is triggerd. Autor of this Work is Alejandro Rojas Lucena, maybe he is around here?

I think the FS9 Rain is also a Animation....

I dont talk about of Rain Animation as more a bitmpas or Texture-layer. As i say above im will not watching a Raindrops move from up to down. Please have a look on this freeware of your own.

I think the effect must also be enabled in the model in some way. If you look at the end of the thread you linked to it doesn't work in all models. The A2A sims already have VC windscreen effects such as misting up.

But they use the FS9 files.

I will focus on the freeware one, who looks it isnt a animation. Please stay on the freeware Rain above, not on FS9 or the J41....

So maybe a Repainter can say it is possible or how its done. (mipmaps and layers)

Yoke memo switches: I totally actually use these.

Not in the NGX, but in previous PMDG sims.  Animations were limited in the NGX to enable the HGS.  The 777 won't have a HUD so that restriction doesn't apply.  Other eye candy only animations I could have mentioned were FOOT AIR and WINDSHIELD AIR knobs.

I don't doubt you do use the memo switches (I didn't watch the whole video to see when though), but for me those digi wheels are a waste of animation which I'd rather see used for VC rain.  It's a trade off.  Given the choice, would you really rather have those memo switches and not have VC rain?  I'd far rather have rain and functional wipers to clear it.

The 777 won't have a HUD so that restriction doesn't apply.

I think that was why they were able to model things like the 777's switches in higher detail. There are some of the same type switches in the NGX that not half as realistic as they are in the 777. Even down to the switch guard.

I think putting quality like that enhances the experience way more than moving armrests etc. Only thing I do actually like is window blinds ha.

I think people are underestimating the amount of animations the rain effect takes.  I don't think it's a matter of losing one or two animations for rain/snow effects.  If it were that simple, I'd imagine they'd lose some of the less important animations in favor of that.

Not sure who has the 744 in here, but for those talking about the usefulness of animations:

-Soda can rotation

-Books shifting

-Something on the pedestal that I'm drawing a blank on...

I'm not complaining.  Rather, looking back, it's kinda funny that those were included.  I'm guessing that's because they weren't bumping up against the animation limits, though.

It would be great to have an opening window, that is one feature of the Aerosoft Airbus VC that I love and they did an awesome job on the opening/closing sound as well.
