April 3, 201313 yr I also have been moving lots of stuff from FSX to another drive. I have not moved the S\W\S folder yet,but when I do,I will probably "point" to it in the fsx.cfg like this... Under the "Main" section SimobjectPaths.16=G:\FSX\PAD ACSimObjectPaths.17=G:\FSX\Scenery\World\Scenery Should work fine, everything else has...By the way,you may want to right click the folder and check it,s size.It may not be large enough to make much difference.Mine is only 551mbs..... April 3, 201313 yr Author My world/texture folder is 9gb! In your example above is G your new drive? ZORAN
April 3, 201313 yr Those folders are part of FSX's scenery.cfg file. If you move them, FSX will never find them unless you edit scenery.cfg located in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\ folder. Keep in mind that 'ProgramData' is a hidden folder. This is the related entry: [Area.001]Title=Default TerrainLocal=Scenery\WorldTexture_ID=1Layer=1Active=TRUERequired=TRUE Just change 'Local=' to the new path so FSX can find it. You can do this to any scenery located there. April 3, 201313 yr Author Great answers these will help namco, if I move scenery/ world to my D drive (3T) do I replace "local" with D? sorry for the simple questions ZORAN
April 3, 201313 yr Replace Local=Scenery\World with Local=D:\Scenery\World if you put the scenery in the ROOT of the drive (D:\). If you put it inside D:\FSX_Default (as an example), Local will be Local=D:\FSX_Default\Scenery\World Just make sure the path points to the folder where the "scenery" folder is located. In this case it can be a tad confusing as there are TWO scenery folders, but only one of them contains the BGL files and that's the one that matters. scenery\world\scenery <--- this last one is where the files are and that's the one FSX needs to know the location. Hope i could help and it's not TOO confusing CASE: Fractal Terra Silver CPU: AMD R5 7800X3D 5.0Ghz RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 GPU: nVidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER · SSDs: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 PCIe · PNY XLR8 CS3040 2TB M.2 PCIe · VIDEO: LG-32GK650F QHD 32" 144Hz FREE/G-SYNC · MISC: Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Joystick + Throttle Quadrant · MSFS2024 · Windows 11
April 3, 201313 yr Author "Replace Local=Scenery\World with Local=D:\Scenery\World if you put the scenery in the ROOT of the drive (D:\)." thats it buddy, thats where it will go. Learning something new again :-) one more question. In the world scenery there is also a texture folder So do I drag the whole world folder over with scenery/texture? in other words Im not sure what folders to drag over to new 3T drive ZORAN
April 3, 201313 yr Yes, the scenery and texture folders are part of the same. Some sceneries will only have a 'scenery' folder and none has only a 'texture' folder. Either both or just 'scenery'. April 3, 201313 yr I really don't know the answer to this, so I'm just asking Isn't one potential problem with moving scenery and texture folders that 3rd-party scenery installers won't be able to find them? You can certainly point FSX to the new location by editing the fsx.cfg, but what about other installers that add files to folders like Scenery/World/scenery and Scenery/Global/scenery? April 4, 201313 yr Author just used this little gem to move 26gb simobject files off my FSX ssd onto a hard drive and works like a charm! http://www.rekenwonder.com/linkmagic.htm No reason why a junction point cant be created with scenery/world/ scenery as well and no need to modify FSX.CFG ZORAN
