World of AI, Late to the Party

Featured Replies

I have just gotten to the point with FSX that I want to add good AI traffic and given that I don't want to spend any more money on addon's unless they are crutial to an emersive NGX experience, World of AI seem to be the way to go from what I have read. I have downloaded the installer and about half of the 600 or so packages but before I start hammering them into my FSX folder I wanted to ask for some tips and warning given that I am a complete nob when it comes to computers. It is a miracle that I have managed to get anything this advanced to work at all!

As far as I can tell from what’s left of the World of AI web-site, (it appears any forum of any kind is all but gone?) it’s simply a matter of using the installer to install the packages into SimObjects\Airplanes. So am I right in saying that I can just go ahead and install every Package into SimObjects\Airplanes and no matter where I go the FSX world and Airports will be as full of appropriately liveried Aircraft to whatever level I set the sliders? No doubt there is a lot more to this than meets the eye (with FSX there always is). So I am just looking for beginner advise and perhaps direction to the appropriate threads that I haven’t been able to find.

Why is Searching on AVSIM so difficult to the point that I cannot even find a search field except the google one? So far I have installed only one package Porter airlines and expected to find traffic at CYTZ. I did but I live nearby and Porter is in and out every 15mins or half an hour and all I got was parked a Dash-8 and nothing going in or out. Granted the readme on the Porter Package said: ”if you want to see flights of this airline departing and arriving from gate normal, you have to add an AF2 to FS2004/FSX for Toronto City Center Airport CYTZ” So my question is what is an AF2?

And Do I have to unzip each package before the World of AI installer can install them?

Since the World of AI forum is gone or will be gone soon will there be an UNOFFICIAL World of AI forum on AVSIM. We FSX Zombies need to be able to suck out the brains of all you FSX geniuses and we enjoy the beating too. UH that sounded dirty.

Yeah there's really not more into that, you just pick the packages using the installer, select FSX as the FS where you are going to install them to and let the installer take care of the rest.

You aren't supposed to unzip the files, just pick up the zip files using the installer and it will install them.

Afcad bgl files and such are basic airport layouts, they include taxiways, runways, parking positions etc.

Usually you can install them by just placing them into Addon Scenery\Scenery folder. Probably you can find such file for that airport from either avsim or flightsim.com file library.

There are a bunch of videos on YouTube showing how to use the WOAI installer. You just run the installer, tell it you're using FSX and select the package zip files to install. You can select multiple package files at once.

Regarding the AF2 file, that's referring to the airport AFCAD, telling you that the default aiport does not have the right sized parking spaces for the AI aircraft in that package. This one should work, it specifically mentions Porter: http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxscen&DLID=172010

Dont forget to convert your traffic.bgls to FSX format so that they dont conflict with any FSX native traffic .bgls that some devs include in scenery packages.

There you go! There's that "more than meets eye stuff" I was talking about in the original post. Now thanks for all the help FSX geniuses. But how the hell do I do that?

Please and Thank you!

I think it would be really a lot easier just to remove those fsx traffic files from sceneries after installing instead of converting all the fs9 traffic one by one to fsx format.

Most of the scenery developers don't include AI traffic in their sceneries anyway.

Most of the scenery developers don't include AI traffic in their sceneries anyway.

That's probably right for most of the developers, but wouldn't you also lose things like boat traffic? Besides some major addons, such as Tongass Fjords and Vancouver have their own traffic files, IIRC, as do some of FlyTampa's sceneries, and ORBX also has some GA AI traffic, that you would probably miss.

On a sidenote, I'd recommend not to install the AI aircraft into the SimObjects/Aircraft folder, because that could turn into an aweful mess that makes it very hard to find something in there. A better thing IMHO is to reate a new folder, e.g. SimObjects/AI, add that one to the SimObjectPaths entries in the FSX.cfg, and install all Ai into that folder. This way it's easier to keep the aircraft you're using yourself organized, and in case you'd like to disable your AI, just comment the SimObjectPaths line out //.

Hmm yeah I guess you might lose boat traffic, I have everything other than AI aircraft traffic disabled all the time anyway so I haven't paid attention to it before and now I'm using Ultimate Traffic 2 anyway.

I knew this would get messy!!! LOL Thanks for the advice I will set up a new file and try to edit the .cfg accordingly. Don't mind trying new things that are easy to do.

I have only added one airline so far "Porter" and I now have Porter traffic at CYTZ.

Still see the boats and dont want to lose them or the cars. So the concensous is that I should convert all of the packages to FSX as per the posts above and will not run into any conflicts? Right?

To convert FS9 AI flight plans, download AI Flight Planner: http://stuff4fs.com/open.asp?Folder=AIFP&JS=TRUE

It's just a couple of mouse clicks to convert all your FS9 plans to FSX: File Menu -> Convert FS9 Traffic Files to FSX

Do I convert the files before or after I install them?

When you install FS9 AI packages into FSX, you loose your FSX default AI. Be it right or wrong, I installed the World of AI packages I wanted and then ran AI Flight Planner and selected convert FS9 AI packages to FSX. Everything went smooth and my FSX default AI came back with the World of AI packages. It was far easier and not at all that messy!! :P

I've always converted them after installation.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Seems the World of AI website is gone earlier than expected.

I understood that it was available until the end of April.

But I just got a 404 error page not found!!!
