April 22, 201313 yr Sorry about my question but how do you install FSX with DX10? Do I have to uninstall then reinstall it?
April 22, 201313 yr Those tweaks worked for me, and I love how smooth it is compared to DX9. I just wish more scenery developers would start using FSX native textures, to avoid incomplete looking airports, especially at night. April 22, 201313 yr Sorry about my question but how do you install FSX with DX10? Do I have to uninstall then reinstall it? No prob, Jose - just go to your Settings - > Display within the sim, here - is the DX1- Preview box - just put a check-mark in the box and re-start FSX - you will then be in DX10 mode. Come back here and ask if you need more help - OK? April 22, 201313 yr Page 5 of the "How-To", Jose - or here.... i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
April 22, 201313 yr Paul, what would happen if I have Directx 11 on my PC? will FSX work the same way? the "how to" doc still will apply?
April 22, 201313 yr Simplified, Jose - I speak English_V2. You speak Spanish_v2. Jim can speak both Spanish_v2 and English_v2, and so he can be an interpreter so we can understand each other. When we introduce new words - or new rules - into the language - the interpreter is modified as a new version, say v3. You will need to get modified, too, but - if I don't get modified - I can no longer talk to you.. So.... DirectX is an "Application Programming Interface" for multimedia, which means it's the "interpreter" which handles (in FSX) the sound and graphics as FSX "creates" them. It is a library of "standard" rules and functions which takes your program's output, and provides a "standard" input to a piece of hardware (your GPU or sound card) that is built specifically to understand that "standard".. The latest version is DirectX version 11, and the built-in programming of our newer graphics cards can all talk to the latest versions of (in our case) games applications, such as FarCry3 or Call of Duty - that are written specifically to use that DX11 standard. They can work with DX10 and DX9 as required. FSX was written for DX v9.0 only, with DX v10 compatibility added in 2007, so we are stuck with DX10. We can change the external DX10 code in the ShadersHLSL folder, but we cannot change that within the FSX.exe core, so DX10 is as far as FSX will ever go. Lockheed-Martin is now working under license from Microsoft to produce a Flight Training Simulator, based upon FSX, known as "P3D". It is being converted to use the DX11 standard. Lastly, your pc can have as many versions of DirectX installed as are available - often being installed by the new application or game itself. FarCry3 will use DX11. FSX will use DX9 and DX10. OK? May 26, 201313 yr I just flew KLAX-EGLL polar in my personal PMDG 747-8i in DX10. Remarkable experience, great weather and sky visuals and a steady 30 fps. Now if I can just turn on the REX enroute weather engine I'll NEVER AGAIN curse the ACES (I think I spelled that right?) who wrote this beast of a sim. Homage due to the folks that cracked the DX10 features and turned this great hobby into an even greater passion. Rick Bertz Rick Bertz
