September 26, 200421 yr -Implementation of MS' Speech recognition system into the ATC.-AFIS Radio ATC support available-ICAO/FAA standard forms support in flight planning-Virtual copilot-2 players sharing same aircraft over a MP session-METAR/TAF briefing available before flight-VOLMET support-Hurricane simulation-NOTAMS support-DAY/NIGHT OPS (airport really closes)-Virtual passengers getting on board-Emergency support in ATC-FMC included-ACARS included-Flight Dispatcher available with Vspeeds and weights forms printable just like the real thing.-Animals crossing runway on rural fields.-Ground vehicles support-Road and highways vehicles support-A more realistic Pushback procedure with airliners.-How about a Virtual AIS or "C" room? Just like Looking Glass' Flight Unlimited I?-More human AI activities on the appron area.-TWR lights signals support in case of radio failure (XPDR set to 7600 would trigger this)-More then 10 ATC voices (if SR implemented too)-More planes. Piper twins, A320, F-22, 1970's and 1960's era.ATC procedures more realistic (HOLDS, pilot mistakes etc)ATC could have more accents and even other languages.
September 26, 200421 yr ...and I would also like them to put a real aircraft in the box, along with vouchers for a year's fuel and landing fees.Best,Martijn
September 26, 200421 yr Martijn..............i notice at the top of your wishlist incorporating speech recognition into the next MSFS incarnation......for me the problem with that is the fact that we're still stuck with the dreaded robotic sound of Mary and her chums....i bought speech buddy some time back and while the idea of freedom from keyboard/mouse strokes is excellent, the farcical voices killed it stone dead, to the extent that i removed the responses.....surely, given the state of the art technology that is available, and the breadth of programming talent in the FS community, someone somewhere can come up with a set of voices that boot Mary et al into touch where they belong.........alan d kerr
September 26, 200421 yr Hi Alan,Please note the first list is not mine...Frankly, although there are many valid points in the list, I do think some are a bit over the top (animals on the runway?), hence my reply, and probably not feasable on 90% on user's machines at decent framerates if all would be implemented. Many are available in add-ons and although that does require extra $$$ these are likely to be much better than a generic FMS, say.Personally, I think FS should aim to provide a platform rather than have everything + the galley sink included. The cost of that would probably be prohibitive. Some improvements that I would really like to see:-Navaids and Procedures database in a format (XML?) that is also accessible to add-on developers for expansion and AIRAC updates. This would also help add-on developers to create FMS and GPS systems using a common data source and tie in with the FS flightplanner instead of having to re-invent the wheel over and over again.-Improved ATC, most notably support for procedures (SIDs/STARs) and better sequencing of incoming aircraft.-Accurate positioning of landmarks, coastlines and bodies of water, mainly to avoid conflicts with addons that do use accurate data.Best,Martijn
September 26, 200421 yr I'd settle for some simpler things than cows on the runway.I 2nd the more versatile ATC idea. You guys forgot deviations for weather and traffic.Alex
September 26, 200421 yr >Animals crossing runway on rural fields. If Microsoft do implement this it would be neat if the animals could reflect the country one is flying in e.g pot-bellied pigs in Vietnam, Camels in the North Sahara or sheep in Wales etc...By the way, i would recommend a third party program such as radar contact for more realistic ATC proceduresCheers :-beerchug
September 26, 200421 yr the mention of animals on the runway tempts me to digress a little to a story the real-life airliner mag i get ran about a jumbo jet braking to a halt on a taxiway(from the tower perspective, for no apparent reason).....closer examination of the situation by a controller with a pair of binoculars revealed the sedate progress of a mole in front of the jet was the reason for the stop....now there's a captain with a soul...........alan
September 26, 200421 yr Tried Radar Contact. Very interesting but I could not stand the crappy voices. The voices sound far too robotic. I was reminded of Boris a chess computer I had in the early 80s..LOL.In reard to visuals BTW what I really would like to see is clouds that cast shadows. That would be a fantastic show.Alex
September 26, 200421 yr The voices can seem a bit robotic on Radar Contact but otherwise i find it suprisingly immersive.,I like the idea on the original post of day/night operations at airports and a more immersive passenger/cabin crew environment. I would have thought those kind of enhancements would be relatively straightforward to implement and would add something to the sim.Cheers., :-beerchug
September 26, 200421 yr LOL...I am flyng GA exclusively. Not much use for cabin environment. You should try FDC for this. Highly configurable and very convincing. I stopped using it when I made the switch from the heavy iron to the GA aircraft though.Alex
September 26, 200421 yr "-Animals crossing runway on rural fields."It's funny that you mention this, as I just saw a local airport the result of a deer and a Piper Cherokee 160 meeting on a runway after dark. The plane hit the deer about mid-span on the right wing(ie co-pilot side of the aircraft). The metal skin was pushed back all of the way to the wing spar.Personally, I would like to see the weather generation and transitions worked on. This is a flight simulator, and the "flight" part still needs work before we worry about exact road placement.Tim13
September 26, 200421 yr ...on a simpler note, how about a brightness slider in the display settings...most other games have them nowdays so id like to see one in fs next time.Dave Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons
September 26, 200421 yr Author I'd like that MS focuses on the environment, providing us with a highly realistic depiction of our planet. Than they should back it up with sophisticated but easy to use tools to modify the world without restrictions to a certain area. They should stop providing dozens of planes, but concentrate on a few not too complex planes for the base stock.I would love to see an environment you can interact with. I love the idea of having wildlife crossing the runways. Or cow herds which start to run when you make a low-pass over them with a helicopter! :-). Of cours gnus in the south east african area! I'm talking about life! Please MS bring our world to live! )Imagine people, animals, vegitation all interacting with themselfs and the environment! Imagine a simulator where you can go on wildlife safari if you want to! Imagine a simulator where plants grow depending on the enviromental conditions! Where plants start to starve if there wasn't any rain for a longer time! An environment that is constantly changing! A terrain which can change because of water for example! Imagine a grass runway in heavy rain and your aircraft gets stuck! And on concrete you probably start to skid if you hit the brakes to hard! And hurricans would be awesome too! Destructible terrain and aircraft! Damage from hail, gear colapses on a very hard touch down etc., etc.I forgot sloping runways and icebergs in the artic regions would be cool too. And they melt if they get into warmer waters :-)And rescue missions! And most importantly a ME. That means you make an account when you start the sim the first time and than you're able to walk around freely!!! Just imagine! You can start in the C office and after flight preps walk:-walksmile over to the hanger and pull out your plane! Than open the door and take your seat!. It's all about freedom people!I short glimpse into the possible future of fs;-)Opinions very welcome!:Dcheers,Claudio
September 26, 200421 yr Gee guys, I thought the animal issue wasn't going to be a major thunderstorm! It happens that I've flown a lot over rural areas and sometimes I had to go around because a cow or even a pig were on the runway.I really miss that kind of thing when flying to a small field in FS9.Some of my flights I even noticed cars using the runway for a shortcut but these things happened only on very isolated places.Pilot_76.
September 27, 200421 yr I don't understand what robotic voices has to do with speech recognition? They are two different components- The speech API and the TTS engine. We could use the the same controller, AI pilot voices. However instead of a lame menu driven response system, it would use voice rec. Have you tried Brad Davis' ATC Simulator? Speech Recognition has come a long way, and I HIGHLY doubt any of us simmers would frown on it because it takes a little time to "tweak" (we're used to that right?).
