Is there a best FSX standard ?

Featured Replies

First, in putting this question out there I am not making any statement and not posting this question relative to any product or any developer.  My reason for posting is that I have logged more time since the first of the year in attempts to get FSX add on products to behave than I've logged in flight hours.  These have included a couple of add on aircraft models, a high end weather textures and weather engine, and updated drivers to my nVidia GTX 560 TI. The issue I had with the weather add on was solved through updates from that developer and was most likely related to operating system as those problems were experienced prior to program execution to start FSX.  Anyway, If there is a best standard then I believe I should consider migrating if it does not cost me a hundred hours to get back to where I am with scenery, aircraft models, weather, FSUIPC, etc.

So is there a best FSX standard?  I am currently installed as FSX Deluxe with SP1 and then SP2.  I've done some research on the number of permutations that may exist with FSX versions.  They include, but may not be limited to the following:

FSX (standard)
FSX SP1
FSX SP2
FSX Acceleration package

FSX Deluxe
FSX Deluxe SP1
FSX Deluxe SP2
FSX Deluxe w/acceleration ???? Is this a valid permutation?  If so how is it acheived?
I understand FSX Gold = Deluxe plus Acceleration ???

FSX Gold (install both disks) = FSX + Acceleration. These put FSX at SP2.

So you are stating that FSX Gold = FSX Acceleration, which = FSX SP2?

So there is no difference between FSX Acceleration and FSX with SP2?

What about FSX Deluxe with SP2?  Same except for included FSX aircraft?

FSX acceleration SP2 is slightly different to teh normal sp2 as accleartion includes some features not included in teh default fsx or sp2. Like helicopter load lifting, carrier opeartions. It also has some other minor changes that a lot of payware are using and require to get full functionality. It may break some fs9 imports but its woth the effort in getting it to work.

SP1 & SP2 were updates that were issued to FSX.

Acceleration is an add-on that includes SP2.

If you purcahse FSX + Acceleration, you install FSX, thn you must activate it. Then all you need to do is install Acceleration, then actavate it. That's the standard.

Acceleration includes carrier ops, missions, and some more airplnes.

If you only buy FSX, then the user should install SP1, then SP2.

That's the standard.

Okay.  So I have FSX Deluxe installed, then I installed SP1, then SP2.  So to get to an accepted standard should I also apply the Acceleration install?

No.  You can only install FSX Deluxe and then Acceleration.  If you don't want to install Acceleration, then just install FSX Deluxe, then SP1, and then SP2.  If you have already installed SP2, you will need to uninstall it before you install Acceleration.  You can do this by double-clicking the SP2.exe program and selecting Remove or Uninstall (if it is installed, the installer will ask you if you want to repair the installation or uninstall it).

Best regards,

Jim

If you try to install acceleration after SP2 the installer will force you to uninstall SP2 first.

You do NOT need SP1 & SP2 if you have Acceleration.

You should simply install FSX, the Acceleration. DONE!

So if what I own is FSX Deluxe, and i have applied SP1 and SP2, should I remove FSX, then install FSX Deluxe again, then install only the Acceleration pack?  Or do I need to find a source for FSX (no Deluxe)?

Is there a consensus here that this should be a de facto standard?  FSX with Acceleration vs FSX or FSX Deluxe with SP1 and SP2?

I am experiencing support issues and genuinely want to learn if there is a consensus that I should make a change. I am currently installed with FSX Dx + SP1 and SP2.

Remove FSX then install deluxe and then run it up and activate it, then install acceleration, this is then fully patched.

Steve,

Thank you. I note with great respect your credibility per what is profiled in your signature. Since there is a ton of additional work for me involved with all the add ons involved I hope you are OK that I look for a consensus here. If this proves to be the standard then I am chagrin that this was not apparent to me a year ago when I upgraded to a system that could handle FSX and thus made the migration from FS9.  Without the guidance I installed FSX Dx then SP1 then SP2.

If you have already installed SP2, you will need to uninstall it before you install Acceleration.

Jim,

Then I do not need to be concerned about first also removing SP1?

No reason not to try simply upgrading with the Acceleration disk, since it will probably work.

This is correct. You install FSX + Acceleration or FSX + SP1 + SP2.  Those are basically equivalent.
