Is KB2670838 applicable to windows 8 as well ? I had alot of CTDs using SweetFX specially in full screen and during maximizing and minimizing FSX. I eventually had to get rid of SweetFX but if this KB thins is going to help I can give it another shot.

Hoping someone can help me come up with some good settings for SFX under DX10.  I'm still not sure I can run it since the moment I put it back in (first time under DX10) FSX locked up when I went to choose a flightplan from my drive, but if I can manage to keep it from crashing FSX it would be nice to have something that works.  I tried Richard's settings above with what I thought was way less than stellar results.  I don't know if I did something wrong but this is what it looked like. Apologies for the full size shot but reducing it in photoshop seemed to kill just exactly how bad it looked (IMO)............

 

 

 

 

 

I'm attaching the SFX settings file I used under DX9 and hoping someone can help me achieve the results that I got with it as seen in the next screenshot of a 50/50 of default on the left and SweetFX on the right.  Just a clearing of the gray haze and a little bump in contrast with curves.  These settings do NOT work in DX10 though and I'm not sure what to change in the effects settings to fix it.  I started with someone else's modified settings file and just happened to find the right combination of enabled effects with it that I liked (I did change the vibrance but that was pretty straight forward).  Oh, almost forgot to mention I'm using 4xS and 4xSGSS AA in NI........

The attached file was my DX9 settings as far as what I enabled.  Any modifications other than the vibrance setting as far as parameters were done by adi518 who I originally got the settings file from.  There's definitely a difference between it and the stock SweetFX settings file.  It was late last night and I realize I forgot to mention just what it was that is "not working" in my file.  Basically lumasharpen seems too strong introducing too much shimmer and the big one is the contrast from curves is way too strong compared to DX9.  I noticed the same thing with using HDR instead as well.

I have a nice running dx10 without problems and it runs smooth.

Ofcourse menkind would always be searching for better.

I have read a lot of stuff at this forum but what concerns me is all the ctd's and problems which might be come up.

My main question is:

If I fill in the suggested settings for sweetfx will that override some of the Nvidia inspector settings and the ones  in fsx itself?

any other tips before I start with this one.

Sweet will not effect NI nor FSX you dont like it you just delete all the sweetfx files out of main fsx folder that you originally placed there but give it a chance try different user settings

I have the same question.

As a Win7 user, I had to delete SweetFX again. Far too many crashes when selecting in game menus or switching from full screen to windowed and vice versa. Will getting rid of the KB eventually cure these problems?

To get FSX dx10 a little brighter with sweetfx, will FPS suffer with it?

I suspect it's part of Win8.  I say that because if you install IE10 on Win7 it automatically installs that KB.  However Win8 comes with IE10 by default.  Now, it's possible the problem with the KB may be fixed.  I saw on Windows Update for Win7 the other night that there is a new "optional" KB that fixes the problems introduced by the KB in question.  I can only assume (since I don't have a Win8 install to check right now) that Win8 may have a similar Windows Update as well.

in the meantime :

1-I downloaded sweetfx .

2-created a map in directory FSX with the name sweetfx

3-copied the files to the map

4-took a suggested settings file to sweetfx with the name sweetfx preset.

 

now i need some help to do what more!
