pmdg 737 better than 747?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

her some thoughts sharing concerning the PMDG 747-400 and the PMDG 737-800:

- I have been flying the 747-400 almost 6 months and the 737- just one week ago and have notice straight away that the pmdg really invested more time on developing the 737 in comparison to the 747. Overall from my experience, the 737 has a lot more animations! for example:

- all the work they did with the FMC (gound connections, door controls, fuel setting) - while on the 747 is done with a menu.

- overal animations such as: lighting

- displays: on the 737 the terrain can be considered - while on the 747 this option is not available (why not?)

- among others...

however, from my experience the 747 does not reduce the FPS as much as the 737 and there is no so much graphic overload as in the 737...

they a both top products! but I did see a big difference in the development from both!

There are some children going to school this year that wern't born when the PMDG 747 was released.

Comparing the 747 to the NGX and saying that the 747 wasn't as good, is a bit like comparing an i7 2800K with 32GB of ram and a 1TB harddrive to a Core2duo with 728MB of ram and a 480MB harddrive.

They aren't from the same era.

... or a DC10 to a 787.

Where have you been for the last decade? the 747 is verry old the NGX is new and has broken through many previous obstacles in fsx. The 747 2.0 will adopt the new technology PMDG have developed and better

The NGX will always be known for years to come - since to me, it changed flight simulation for everyone.

Not only by it's high degree of accuracy and systems modeled (which is awesome), but also the fact that NGX (and surely the 777), have already set the flight simulation reference at an extremely high level, which is very good for all the community. In my opinion Level D 767 also have made an incredible contribution but obviously a major update is needed.

The Level D 767 is basically an FS9/FSX port of the original PIC767 (The 2D captains side panel is 100% identical except for some updates to how the TCAS works.)

The PIC767 was designed for FS2000 and was released in very early 2001 by my recconing. Making it 12 years old.

I'd say the LDS 767 wasn't surpassed in it's position as best MSFS addon airliner till PMDG's MD11. An arguement can be made that the PMDG 744 is on par or better, but the MD11 was the first one that was clearly unarguably better.

The original PMDG 737NG for FS2004 (2?) was close, but didn't have an in-depth IRS like the PIC/LDS767 did.

the 737NGX of course improves on the MD11 in leaps and bounds.

The 747 was absolutely awesome, but it still missed a lot of things the real one has. The radio panel for example is almost useless. The sounds are good but far from the real thing. Just listen to the call outs and the speed brake deploy sounds.

On the NGX almost everything works very similarly to the real 737, with some exceptions of course. Just watch some real life cockpit videos of both planes and you'll see how the NGX behaves much more realistically. So it's not just what you see on the VC that counts.

When you take all that into account, the frame rate loss is very little compared to all you've gained with the NGX.

What do you mean?  I have not flown it for a while but I believe you tune the nav via the FMC?

Again, no Idea what your talking about?  They were recorded from the real thing?

744V2 will be great.

To the OP - its unfair to compare something that was made over 6 years ago to something released in 2011.

Being Rob's favourite - it's going to more than likely be pure perfection! Awesome news for 747 fans (-:

Well, you are right, the main nav frequencies are tuned via FMC. Though if you look at the radio panel at the 747 there are many knobs that don't work, while in the NGX even the things you don't usually tune can be used there. I just said that to point out that PMDG didn't just make what they had better on the NGX, but also added a bunch of details that 90% of people don't care about, but it is there for those who do, and that's great! The differences are not just about better graphics and animations. I just pointed the obvious ones he probably noticed. The amount of work put in the  little details was larger on the NGX. I'm not saying they worked less on the 747, but they probably had to focus on more important points, such as moving it from FS9 to FSX and building a great part of the tools and knowledge that brought them to what they are today.

I was wrong about the sounds, sorry. The ones on the 747 are indeed the real old ones. I just didn't know they were updated and they are the same ones you hear on the NGX. The old sounds are rare on videos, that's why I didn't know they were really from the 747. I always found that weird and because of you I found the truth. Thanks haha! Here:

Old:

New:

But I still don't know what's up with the speedbrake sound, if you care to explain where it came from.

Cheers

Comparing the PMDG 747 to the NGX is like comparing Windows 95 to Windows 7. or things made in 2004 to things made in 2011. New technological developments happened and the new things are more sophisticated. It's how progress works. New things are better than old things.
