Cessna 310 and Flight1 anti-piracy

Featured Replies

Boshar, You can say that again. I know I use to buy almost every payware add on and now with this machine binding I don't buy but from few devlopers now. I just bought the 152 and it was easy to install and it is real easy to reinstall. I know Lou said it is not the safest from pirates but nothing is really safe pirates. I think the one point that everyone who has posted on all these threads about piracy has is that they just don't want to email the developer everytime they need to reinstall on put it on another computer. It really feels like you are renting something you just paid between 30 and 40 dollars for. I know that I am not renting any software for that amount. I have no prob paying the money but I am not going to email someone when I need to do something. It feels like big brother is watching you. I think I am going to stay clear from these threads for awhile because it gets me hot and I have to get on my soapbox. Jason

Folks,I just got off the phone with Steve Halpern, the President of Flight One. We usually talk about 3-4 times per month. I just wanted to verify the information I already knew was the case - was the case.I'll try to clarify as many of these issues as simply as possible. Maybe I can shead some light on these topics. I thought I would write this post personally and not give an offical company response so maybe you can all see what we are thinking. You may not like being inside my mind :9 LOL.1. First off..the personal info you enter in the wrapper info is for the bank (merchant account)..not Flight 1 or the developer using the Flight 1 wrapper. You all KNOW FULL WELL that anytime you buy ANYTHING from the web they ask you for your name, addy, city, state, country, CC#, and BILLING ADDY (to prevent fraud). 2. Flight 1 logs IP's (as you already know UP FRONT before making your purchase). Actually, I think just about any web site you visit does the same thing. One reason is to prevent fraudulant shipments to countries not authorized to receive goods from the US. IP logging helps out in this area. The other reason is yes, if a product key has been request 5 million times (not a far off exageration here), then F1 can try and track this. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THE CUSTOMER SEE's OR IS INCONVENIENCED BY. The customer may be inconvenienced if the developer does not re-issue a key requested by the customer. This is why we also issue a receipt for your order, so you can use this as proof of purchase as well. Of the 500 or so customers who have bought our LCY2003 product, very few have even requested a key (most of the keys requested were re-issued in under 24 hours). I'm sure there be some customers who have bought other products and may have not received keys in a timley manner, so don't start another thread on key generation..we can do this later.3. Piracy...I'm not even gonna go there because the piracy happens well after the purchase has been made, not before or during (as far as I can see). Yes, I know that hackers/crackers sometimes try and generate keys. I guess thats where that IP logging comes in..again..you the customer do not see this.4. Collection of personal information again: We DO NOT CARE about any of your other habits other than the one the WE also have: Flight Simming. As far as I'm aware I don't know of a way we as a developer can figure out from your IP what our customers do outside of FS'ing. If we tried to figure that out..we would never ever ever be able to release another product again (because we'd be to busy trying to d-base all your info). If I sound sarcastic, mean, rude, it's because we are also customers/simmers, and I can assure you it is more important to us (rather than you), that you are happy with our product. Our livelyhood and reputation depends on your statisfaction. We (the FS developer community) would never intentially try to inconvinience any customer..that's just not good business sense, but we do have to try and find a happy median here. Rest assured we are always looking for easier ways to have our product installed on the customers computer with as little interaction on the customers side as humanly possible.I hope this helps you all understand a little on how and what we (myself and MAYBE some other developers/companies) are thinking. I am not the best writer..I think you can see that by now.Have a good one.

You only need to revalidate the key if you reinstall the aircraft. each time you reinstall, you must validate the key online. If you reinstall the aircraft 3 times, the key will not work after that. I'm not sure of the number of reinstalls, Three is only a guess. You can fly the planes forever, never accessing the key except for the initial install. The key, from my understanding and experience, only affects the installation process. I've bought several products from flight 1, and had to install the 421, more than once, becuase of a hard drive crash, computer upgrades, and the occasional reinstal of flightsim to cure the gremlins. Flight 1 makes it very easy as long as you can prove who you are. I've also had to deal with a lost key from FSD International, and they were more than accomodating.Be nice, don't lie, and the vendors I've dealt with are more than willing to help. Those vendors would be: Flight1, MAAM, FSD, PMDG, PSS, and Dreamfleet.WesPS- I own the C310, you won't regret the purchase. Especially if you've ever been lucky enough to sit, ride or fly in the real thing.

Wes,You may wish to look at the date of the thread before you reply. This thread is approx. seventeen months old. :)-John

The down side to keeping all these messages in archive for so long. Maybe AVSIM should reconsider our message retention policy, like shortening it to six months...

Mr.SmallI strongly resent the implication that FSD's system is similar to the Flight1 wrapper system. This is by no means the case, and you know that too. After all my hardware problems, and 2 or 3 hardware upgrades what have I got now? From my FSD aircraft not ONE of them any more, cos FSD refused to re-activate my keys after the 9th or 10th download (over a period of 3 years I might remark) Ok, I got my money back after a long and weary email exchange, and threatening FSD with legal action, but I'd have rather had the aircraft to be quite honest. In the same time period what has happened with all my downloads using the F1 wrapper( F1, DF, RXP, eaglesoft etc, etc?) I still have them ALL, I just had to re-activate the key and install again, that was itl. No accusations of piracy, no accusations of installing it to 9 or 10 different MACHINES (although it was the same machine all the time, just with different hardware inside) , no nasty emails, just a new key so I could install what I paid for. To say that FSD's system is comparable with F1's wrapper system is blatently untrue, and was designed to try and polish FSD's somewhat tarnished reputation in this area as far as I can see. Tom, if you do that, we really need to anchor the Ferd Berful, "Patch" thread in the PIC forum! Of course, people DO keep 'bumping' it every few months. :)
