May 19, 201313 yr I wanted to ask if its possible to use a FS 2004 scenery in FSX. I was thinknig about Mega Airport Rome. I know it will be released for FSX but until then I wanted to give it a go. Is it possible? Do i need to do some extra stuff to work it or just install it? Thanks Büke Yolaçan
May 19, 201313 yr Commercial Member Well you can try and see if it works, shouldn't require any extra stuff, just install it. Some airport sceneries for FS9 seem to work pretty much perfectly with FSX, some have slight graphical problems but mostly work, and some don't really work at all. Shouldn't do any harm at least. However I'm not sure if Aerosoft installer lets you to install it on FSX directly, you might need to have FS2004 installed than then after installation of the scenery just move the files to FSX folder.

Thanks The most common problems with using payware FS9 sceneries in FSX is transparency problems with buildings and objects and custom ground polys. The transparency problems are usually that when looking at a certain object that you would normally be able to see thru, like a fence for example, you will not be able to see thru it, or any number of these type of problems with cranes, poles, etc. You can use a free program like ModelConvertX to fix some of these issues but it can be time consuming. The problem a lot of times with custom ground polys from FS9 being used in FSX are bleed thru. In FS9 ground polys were modeled as perfectly flat objects. In FSX the world is curved, although its not noticeable to the naked eye, but when you introduce a flat ground poly from FS9 into FSX'es curved world, it results a lot of times into the ground textures bleeding thru at certain points in the airport. I think this can be fixed using ModelConverter X as well, but I haven't gotten the hang of doing it since its well beyond my understanding. In the past I converted some FlyTampa FS9 aiports like KMIA and KSEA to work in FS9 but I had to spend a lot of time fixing all the transparency probelms, fixing the AFCADs, and never could fix the custom ground polys, so all the buidlings had to sit on top of regular FSX tarmac textures that the AFCAD displayed. If you do try it, besides just moving the Scenery folders from FS9 to FSX, you will probably have to hunt down any effects and their corresponding textures as well that got installed so that any special effects like night lights, smoke, fountains, etc will work. May 19, 201313 yr There is another program called AddonConverterX too which converts FS9 textures to FSX on the fly. There's a freeware version that runs for 10 minutes so you can see if it works for you. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! May 20, 201313 yr I have a registered copy of Addon Converter X and from my experience using it it doesn't fix any FS9 ground polygons and won't convert most FS9 sceneries that currently don't work in FSX. The name of the program is somewhat misleading. If you run it before you fly it will read all the sceneries and cache them so that when you fly they will load faster, this it does pretty well.
