June 10, 201312 yr Author What about grey runways at dusk and dawn? ......I have also noticed that the cars lights are black squares.........? Not seeing either of these two issues. I checked car lights at dusk/night in both default and OrbX PNW areas (I believe OrbX uses their own cars but I may be wrong). Not seeing any gray runways either. The only thing I need to do is apparently make a custom water texture in REX because the default one in REX seems too light in DX10 mode. Edit: I think I found out part of what's up with my water. I used FSWC to modify things a while back and just realized it doesn't work in DX10 mode. Apparently there is a lite version that has one DX10 preset, so I'm going to check that out. June 10, 201312 yr Hi flyinion I think I found out part of what's up with my water. I used FSWC to modify things a while back and just realized it doesn't work in DX10 mode. Apparently there is a lite version that has one DX10 preset, so I'm going to check that out. This is one area REX/ FSWC Lite that I am very familiar with. I have incredible looking water. I'd be glad to give you any tips. REX water needs to be just a little tweaked to be a dirty, tad bit darker for both inland blue and inland brown. That hard glue and hard brown they give you looks aweful in DX10. In fact I just uploaded my DX10 theme to REX and you can find it by looking for "Beautiful Summer Day". I hope the water tweak sticks when it's uploaded. I had downloaded a couple of themes from users a while back and teh inland water was always default. Give that a whirl. PS: I am also working on a SweetFX file too and will share that as well...............soon. June 10, 201312 yr Could you try posting your water settings in case it doesn't come down with the theme? I'd love better water. I have my P3D water looking amazing but DX10 water in FSX still looks awful. -stefan
June 10, 201312 yr Author Thanks I'll look for the theme and check the water out! Once I confirm my suspicions about SweetFX causing FSX to randomly disappear to the desktop with no errors in DX9 mode by completing a flight without it and in DX10 mode, I'm going to re-introduce it and see how it behaves in DX10. June 14, 201312 yr Author Ok so I fixed my water problem. I had run FSWC Lite which has a demo of a DX10 water from their upcoming new version of FSWC. After playing with my own REX water texture settings a bit things just still weren't looking right. Did some looking and found a suggestion to clear the water cache when using FSWC Lite. I removed the water texture cache files and bam I had amazing looking water using the FSWC Lite DX10 profile even with the default set of water textures that come with REX. Ocean is a nice deep blue, etc. AMD Ryzen 9950X3D | Asrock X870E Taichi | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 w/EK waterblock | Full Custom Loop Cooling | Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5-6000 | Samsung & WD NVME/SSDs | Phanteks Enthoo 719 | Seasonic Vertex Gold 1200W | Keychron Q5 Max | Corsiar Scimitar Elite SE Wireless | Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo | Logitech Pro Flight Pedals | VKB Gladiator Pro NXT L&R handed | MiniCockpit MiniFCU | Alienware AW34DWF | Asus PG279Q | Win 11 Pro
June 14, 201312 yr Yup you nailed it fly' You have to delete that (C/users/yourusername/AppData/Local/FSX/Shaders10 folder everytime you change anything shader wise. Particularily in DX10. Did I hear a shutter?...................... That's only a DX10 folder. It has nothing to do with DX9 and no DX9 files will be there. You only need to delete the Shader 10 (10 is for DX10) one time after you install the update(s). It doesn't hurt anything if you delete it everyday though. It will be rebuilt when you restart FSX (in DX10 Preview). Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! Before I deleted it I had weird looking water. It was no longer bright blue, but it looked kinda grayish/nasty. Once I deleted the water cache files the new FSWC shader really popped into action. I'll try to get a screenshot tonight. I can't tell you exactly what it looks like with default water textures though since I used REX to replace the default ones, but it looks great IMO with the default REX textures. I think the inland waters might still use a bit of darkening and I'll work on that, but the ocean texture is an awesome deep blue that reminds me a lot of what it looked like when I was floating around the Pacific on an aircraft carrier in real life AMD Ryzen 9950X3D | Asrock X870E Taichi | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 w/EK waterblock | Full Custom Loop Cooling | Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5-6000 | Samsung & WD NVME/SSDs | Phanteks Enthoo 719 | Seasonic Vertex Gold 1200W | Keychron Q5 Max | Corsiar Scimitar Elite SE Wireless | Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo | Logitech Pro Flight Pedals | VKB Gladiator Pro NXT L&R handed | MiniCockpit MiniFCU | Alienware AW34DWF | Asus PG279Q | Win 11 Pro
June 15, 201312 yr Great stuff! I like that grayish/nasty stuff especially when the weather is bad. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! June 15, 201312 yr Author As promised here's a couple of shots of the water now that I fixed the shader cache. June 16, 201312 yr I'm not really sure if I should continue this threaad which was started by another but I think all the issues are related and relevant. @Jim Evidently when PaulJ and I were putting my DX10 files in we installed 3.2.1 . During the course of this thread I put in 3.2.2 . and that fixed all of the isues I mentioned previously...................except, I still don;t have lights in the autogen buildings. I have searched for days but there just doesn;t seemm to be anyone else with this problem. @flyinion Your water looks superb. I would like to make an observation though. You may or may not know but in other gaming forums we often discuss likes and dislikes about say for example a map one might be making for Crysis. We will always say that something looks perfect OR, we will suggest that something is a little off and then try to help out by giving out ideas. I have noticed over the years that this is not quite as accepted in flightsim for some reason. A screen shot will be posted somewhere showing blurry plain textures and aliasing all over the plane and the comments will be "great shot"! This seems silly to me. I say all this because the last thing want to do is offend anyone, I really don't. So if I may say that your inland water textures look superb I think the color is a little to green/dark. You might want to slide the plankton control up about 10% and then slide the bright up about two notches. Alao brighten the ocean by about two notches also. I do realize that everyone has their own taste so this is all up to the you in the end but I hope you and others seriously know I mean no harm. chik W10 Pro, Maximus XI Hero Z390, [email protected], Air, 1000 Watt PSU, G.SKILL RipJaw-V 32GB, 2-RTX2080-Ti's, Samsung 970 PRO 512GB, Couple More SSD's, 2-Vast Curved 3440X1440, 2-Asus 27" flats, .......Everything MAXED!
