Closing runways in FSX

Featured Replies

Gents, I've been using Lee Swordy's AFCAD editor very successfully in FS9 to close runways for use with Pro Flight Emulator. This prevents constant runway changes when on approach and makes flight planning easier when everyone's landing on the same runway.

I understand AFCAD doesn't work in FSX. Is there a nice *simple* method to open and close runways to AI in FSX?

I think you can accomplish this through the Airport Design Editor - http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/.  You can also buy ProATC-X.  It has the capability of opening/closing any runway for takeoff/landings.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks all. Might give pro ATC a bash.

You could also buy AFX which is AFCAD for FSX.

What do AFX and ADE do that the other can't (if anything)?

Thanks, Bruce.

I have both, I find AFX easier to use for quick changes and ADE for more complex changes on airports that I have downloaded and were designed using ADE. If you wanted to use AFX for change any ADE features that AFX can't handle then opening the Airport with AFX changing it to how you want and then saving it as an overlay to the ADE airport. (The overlay folder must be a higher priority i.e. nearer the top,  in the scenery configuration file). So I guess ADE has some features that AFX doesn't but I am no airport designer and couldn't list them but I bought AFX before FSX ADE was available. AFX also had pushback direction adjustments which ADE did not before GSX came on the scene.
