June 15, 201312 yr So the G8 is coming to Northern Ireland, and I am thoroughly looking forward to seeing not only the world leaders but also their presidential/ prime ministerial aircraft. It's going to be the first time in ages that we've had any aircraft larger than the A320s and 738s coming into Aldergrove. Securities coming down hard though with 4400 of the PNSI being joined by 3600 officers of the United Kingdom. They're also bringing back the police checkpoints. Aldergrove is mean't to stay open and accessible but I doubt I'll get close enough to get a glimpse, never mind picture as cameras in this state of security would be a bad idea. Will Torrens
June 15, 201312 yr The Canadian Prime Minister arrived into Dublin this morning for the conference... :canada-flag: That as well as a number of Russian Air Force freighters that arrived in last night. Journalists are supposed to be arriving into Knock on a 767 tomorrow... Also we're getting the American First Lady and Children down here for a few days in Dublin for a visit... :ireland-flag: :united-states-flag: Also 900 Gardaí will be helping the PSNI out with securing the event along with the defence forces of the Republic of Ireland... Going to be an interesting few days... ^_^ Rónán O Cadhain.
June 15, 201312 yr You can always bet that the Obamas will not miss an opportunity for a taxpayer paid vacation.
June 15, 201312 yr You can always bet that the Obamas will not miss an opportunity for a taxpayer paid vacation. Don't worry, we don't mind paying for them in the slightest, they're welcome anytime. Their last visit really boosted everyone's spirits 2 years ago... ^_^ :yahoo: No need to feel like yeer imposing yourselves... :ireland-flag: :united-states-flag: Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
June 15, 201312 yr Author The C-5 with all the presidents vehicles, support etc. arrived in earlier this week in Aldergrove. Nothing cheers you up in a GCSE maths exam as much as looking out of the window and seeing three VH-60N "Whitehawks" (marine one) pass over at low altitude. Will Torrens

June 15, 201312 yr Here's a shot of the Canadian Prime Minister landing earlier today... With a fresh coat a paint on it for this G8 meeting. It used to be military grey. Stephen Harper kept complaining he didn't like the old colours. These new colours are the same colours used on the Snowbirds Demonstation Team: Great looking airplane! I notice they didn't use a 747. They would have used Boeing's but a guy by the name of Karlheinz Schreiber gave former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney (and other politicians) suitcases full of cash to have Canada choose Airbus over Boeing. I would have preferred it if they choose the 757 at that time for this fleet instead of the CC-150 Polaris (Converted A310). Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
June 15, 201312 yr They would have used Boeing's but a guy by the name of Karlheinz Schreiber gave former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney (and other politicians) suitcases full of cash to have Canada choose Airbus over Boeing. Careful now Matthew "alleged" is the right word, and the former Prime Minister only admitted to a "briefcase(s) full of cash", not "suitcase(s) full of cash". He swears it was paid to him for "future" considerations, not "past". B) Kind regards with fine tuned legal distinctions, Oh, yeah, almost forgot, Didn't he then smuggle/sneak/carry* the money (by not declaring it) into the US on a trip to the United Nations (New York anyway) and stashed it in an "American Bank" but forgot to include it when he first filed his taxes, but made a deal afterwards with Revenue Canada? I think that this PM's airbus shown above was a former Wardair bird, but not certain. Kind regards,
June 15, 201312 yr I think that this PM's airbus shown above was a former Wardair bird, but not certain. Yes, this is correct, Wardair had ordered 5 them and when Canadian merged with Wardair Canadian didn't need them so sold them to the Airforce with a service contract in Winnipeg to service them. I guess the Airbus Scandal was with only Air Canada orders and not the military CC-150's. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
