July 2, 201312 yr Hello, I've managed to start in a cold and dark cockpit, but i need to get out of it I know that in real life, engines are not started until push back is initiated, they work with APU until they start the engines. So if anyone could give me a checklist to follow in order to start my plane systems only (without the engines) i.e. radio, autopilot, i would be thankful.
July 2, 201312 yr Ahh sorry , it's a Boeing 737-800 Is it the NGX or default or other? Tom "I just wanna tell you both: good luck. We're all counting on you."
July 2, 201312 yr Had to go look as I havent flown the default in years... simply open the overhead panel and set the DC switch to ON, using either BAT or APU as a source Jay
July 2, 201312 yr Yes, the default aircraft for the most part are not very realistic. To help you further, you might look in the FSX Learning Center. It is located at your FSX startup screen. July 4, 201312 yr Depends on what kind of pc you running with if you got a high range one providing you can afford it you can choose and pick what you like, to start with the pmdg737 ngx is a good starting point and with scenery you cant go past orbox pnw or any of the orbox packs are good. July 4, 201312 yr Ok, thank you. But can you recommend me Add-on's to make my FSX more realistic Any FSX addon will provide you more realism than any of the default aircraft/scenery. Peter mentions the PMDG737 and that's considered top of the line in regards to realism. They will be soon releasing a Boeing 777 and updating their previous versions of the Boeing 747. You pay for the high quality though. There are a lot of tutorials provided by PMDG and others to help you learn flying this aircraft with the most realism. I would also look at our Links page in the AVSIM Menu above and it will provide you with many links to commercial websites that offer FSX products and provide better descriptions of any aircraft or scenery. I like Flight1, PilotShop, SimMarket, Aerosoft, and PC Aviator. They all have tons of products that will further your entertainment and experiences into flight simming. BTW, welcome to AVSIM! July 4, 201312 yr to start with the pmdg737 ngx is a good starting point I wouldn't recommend it to the "beginner flight simmer" as I am assuming he is, it's a very complex aircraft and not knowing the basic ropes first, he will find himself in a hole without anyway out (lost). M30: If you are new to Flight Simulators then good on you for starting up. Don't expect to be an expert by years end, as this kind of hobby is quite demanding in the learning side of things. Get to grips with flying the default aircraft first, do a few T&G's, taxi around the airport in various aircraft, as sizes are different. It can be quite challenging for the "newbie" (as I am assuming that is what you are?). All in all, once you feel comfortable with your skills you have gained through the default aircraft, I would then recommend you move onto the big boys, for example: PMDG (IMO 'The' best for building the highest of quality aircraft, with the closest to reality accuracy, yet still giving you the best of performance on your system. PMDG are my all time favourite, as I have learn't a lot from them the past few years and keep on learning every-time I fly their aircraft. Anyhow, enjoy this hobby. As it is very exciting and you learn a lot from it.
July 5, 201312 yr wouldn't recommend it to the "beginner flight simmer" as I am assuming he is, it's a very complex aircraft and not knowing the basic ropes first, he will find himself in a hole without anyway out (lost). There's always the tutorials to go by and the fcom to study and beside using the fsx default isn't that realistic, and he wanted to know what addon would make fsx more realistic.
