July 4, 201312 yr Hello All I am sorry if I am beating a dead horse and I did looked around and don't get an exact answer so forgive me for asking but..... What is a recommended route planner that includes SID and STARS that I can export then import into a non FMC equiped aircraft...Hope that makes sense. Alternatively is it recommended to get some "generic" fmc for non-fmc aircraft? I am also looking for a route planner that can create flightplans that are PMDG compatible. I am trying to create my own outside of the tutorial flights but are a bit stuck with first how to and what to use. Any tips, pointers and help is much appreciated. Thanks, G
July 4, 201312 yr Hello there, no answer yet, so I'll give it a try. First of all, I would not recommend getting some generic FMC program for any airplane that does not have it natively, say a King Air, or a Baron. It is not realistic, if what you are after is FMC navigation, then get a good liner add on, this way you'll know the FMC is part of the instruments. For importing a route with SIDS, STARS, in a non FMC aircraft, I believe you can't do that, in this case, you have to enter all the route waypoints manually in the GPS, but in this case you won't be able to, say, fly a DME arc through the GPS, as you would with an FMC. It all depends on how skilled you are. If you're not, my suggestion is you do as I did: start flying the entire route manually, with the help of the VOR and radials, you can use the default Baron for this, and learn how to fly the procedures manually. Once you are skilled, then move on to a more complex aircraft equipped with an FMC. As far as flight planners, the two most popular ones are FSCommander and FSBuild. There is a third one, which is long due, it is called: Professional Flight Planner X. None of these I believe will let you import routes with SIDS and STARS into any aircraft non equipped with an FMC. What you can do is create a route, and enter the waypoints manually into the GPS. Last: both FSCommander and FSBuild create flight plans that you can import into any PMDG aircraft, same for Professional Flight Planner X, whenever it comes out. If you are into online flying, IVAO or VATSIM, make sure you update your AIRAC cycles through Navigraph or NavDataPro. I hope this helps, any more questions you have, just ask, you may pm me if you want, Enrico
July 4, 201312 yr I've been using Vroute Premium for a while now and like it's features. You can try the free version to see if it's for you. $30 if you decide to buy. http://www.vroute.net/ http://www.simroutes.com is a free website that has a large database of FP's as well as the ability to generate your own and they can be downloaded for most any aircraft including PMDG. July 5, 201312 yr Author Many thanks all for the information. I have been simming on and off for years and I know that in one of the earlier MS versions I created a flight plan using sid and stars in an fmc, think it could have been a Phoenix product, cannot be sure now, and exported the flightplan in FS format, and then I could load it into any plane. I guess it may not have been as accurate or perhaps did SID and STARS properly, but I am kind of only looking to be aligned with the runway when I get to my destination. So I would have thought something like this is possible in FSX. Thanks again, G
July 5, 201312 yr I usually use route finder for my basic flight plan of if I get time use skyvector planning than once loaded in the sim than I start my aviloft efb than it will list all the sids and stars for my flight plan on the map that I can choose from depending on the active rwy I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg

Reality XP GPS has SIDs, STARs and approach procedures and it can export a fight plan in FSX format. Unfortunately it's not Navigraph-updateable and the latest nav data is from 2011. I guess it may not have been as accurate or perhaps did SID and STARS properly, but I am kind of only looking to be aligned with the runway when I get to my destination. If you just want to get lined up with the runway, even the default GPS gives you access to approach procedures for many airports, just hit the PROC button and choose the approach and transition. It's best to get the charts to use with it so you'll know the altitudes, as the GPS procedures only handle the lateral navigation. Barry Friedman
July 5, 201312 yr Pen and Paper to plan it out to fly, write down vor, adf fequenced and headings and notate the intersections too. Draw out vfr approach and airport layout. Scale and time each leg to ensure on track. GPS makes it boring to make and rather old way pen paper compass
July 5, 201312 yr It's good to learn all methods of navigation. To me they are all fun to try in FS http://navfltsm.addr.com/ Barry Friedman
July 5, 201312 yr Commercial Member I am kind of only looking to be aligned with the runway when I get to my destination ...you can make a route in FSX planner and pull out a new waypoint and drop it out from your destination runway for the last GPS waypoint. Or not many realise that Ideal Flight generates routes with a set of approach waypoints, the Upgrade coming soon also does FAFs, IDFs, SIDs and STARs .
