July 28, 201312 yr I think the only possibility to get a new version of FS for the enthusiast user, is to go the route so many forgotten franchises have gone so far. You need to find someone with the skill and motivation to do it (probably someone from the old aces team), and then start a kickstarter campaign. If enough people are interested it will work, if not nobody will do it anyway. (Something like that as an example: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity)

Nah, new FS could very well be profitable, just not as profitable as using the same amount of work to create some mainstream game with way wider userbase.
