Carrier Ops

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just installed (hopefully corect) some of the carriers/carrier ops offered by the AVSIM Library into P3D. I also installed a free T45. After reading docs, I can't figure out how to actually start/launch from the carrier so I can do a quick flight around the boat. Could anyone help me out. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, (kind of rusty) it's a keystroke that you have to set up yourself.

hmm. I haven't seen this in the docs so far. Then again, I haven't seen any reference to startup location (other than flying to the carrier from land).

Shift+U to lower the launch bar (need to be near the cat), Shift+I to raise blast shield then Shift+Space to launch. Shift+Q to raise and lower hook.

Sorry, I think I was misunderstood.

My question is... how do I start the sim with my aircraft on the deck of the carrier? Everything (P3D or SimLauncher) wants a city/state/airport code as the starting point...

Start up P3D as usual - move your a/c to the carrier - save flight as default. If the docs for the carrier don't give you a code, they should give you a location. Just slew the a/c until you are on deck. Save flight as default.

Also, some of the carriers may come with a preset flight - start p3d - load flight - save as before.

I just recently started carrier ops.

I first got FSX Acceleration Expansion Pack. Glad I did, well worth the money.

It has the F/A - 18 Hornet, carriers and teaches carrier operations with a carrier mission.

Instructions on carrier schedules (flight plans), departure/arrival times sailing, how to find the carrier (ist FSX ID) etc.

I have been looking at VRS SuperBug and their TacPac for FSX but they say P3D is not supported .. so I do not know if anyone tested it yet in P3D.

Anyway, I am interested in your P3D carrier results so far.

Which carrier did you get from AVsim library?

How well is it working in P3D?

Vaughan,

The VRS Bug will not work in P3D. I spent hours trying to get her working to no avail. Carrier Ops work fine in P3D but be prepared to spend a little time setting things up depending on what route you take.

First you'll need a carrier capable aircraft (theres no Hornet in P3D). You'll need to move the Acceleration Hornet from FSX to your P3D install. Be aware that there are files other than the files in the FSX\SimObjects folder that need to be moved. I dont have FSX installed any longer so I cant check them but you'll need to look in the \Effects, \Sound, \Fonts and \Gauges folders. Your looking for any file that has FA-18 in its name. That should get the Acceleration Hornet working . If you feel ambitious you can mod that Hornet with Sludges Hornet or the FSXBA Hornet. I use both.

I prefer to use AICarriers2 which can be found in the AVSIM library. It allows you to place a boat in front of you as you fly. The boat can be stationary or moving you decide. I'll fly out of Pensacola and drop a carrier about 10 miles offshore. In addition Javier's Nimitz and Ike can be installed  and work well with AICarrires2. They're also in the library.

Finally , you can add a nifty little program called vLSO. It will give LSO callouts and grade your pass. Its not easy but if you like a challenge give it a go. Heres a link to a vid up on YouTube:

CarrierOps work fine but you might have to spend a little time sorting things out. Enjoy

cTec1,

Thanks for all the info.

It will take a bit to go through it all.

Thanks for the video link .. will watch it now.

Maybe I will stick with FSX/Accel for now.

Hard to resist VRS SuperBug and their TacPac for FSX.

Maybe P3D next ver (2) will have more for carrier ops.

I am at KNGU (Norfolk) working on it all.

Just wondering .. do you have traffic crossing the runway?

Yes I had that experience. I'm not at my sim puter but if I recall the road actually exists at that location but is an underpass. For whatever reason it's rendered at ground level. I fixed the problem at this airport by either turning off traffic in FSX or changing a traffic setting on UTX. Sorry cant check which one right now.

Ok,

Least I know there is no "funny" stuff going on inside my PC!

BTY, I almost pulled the trigger on the Semi.
