August 12, 201312 yr Hi Guys having flown the PMDG B747-400 Queen of the Skies with FS2004 for many years I now want to try the amazing PMDG 737NGX with FSX . I see so many editions of FSX really not sure which one to go for to use the 737NGX could you advise please? Having only ever used FS2004 I hope there are not too many hidden surprises setting up FSX. Could I also clarify that all I need to run the PMDG 737NGX 800-900 retailing 69.99p is the FSX only. My system Specs Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit CPU Intel i 5 4670 16GB Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Hard Disk SSD 120 GBs Thank You Very Much Richard (Nagoya) Richard Coombs
August 12, 201312 yr H Richard, I see so many editions of FSX really not sure which one to go for to use the 737NGX could you advise please? I would recommen FSX with Acceleration, sometimes called Gold. It works great with me and never have any problems with the NGX. Could I also clarify that all I need to run the PMDG 737NGX 800-900 retailing 69.99p is the FSX only. Yes, all you need for the NGX is the 800/900, you can then also add on the 600/700 with all the differences for example the flight model. You wont miss FS2004 especially when you see the NGX! August 12, 201312 yr Author Excellent Greg just what I needed in a nutshell, I saw the 737NGX on the You Tube looks awesome I was torn between the IFLY 737NG, but the PMDG looks the real deal, amazing attention to detail, I've been aching to get the FSX for a while, so thanks Greg i'll follow your kind advice and cut the umbilical cord with my FS2004 after many moons. Many Thanks Richard Richard Coombs
August 12, 201312 yr If you have the iFly NG version for FS9 already, there is an inexpensive cross-licence available for the iFly FSX version. If you don't own the iFly, I DO recommend the PMDG NGX for a bunch of reasons like easy one-step complete panel state saving and reloading, the terrain represention on the ND - and a bazillion of additional reasons! August 12, 201312 yr Author Hi Thank You for the great advice Could I ask also, what do you think if I want to use FSX Gold Edition with Acceleration Pack and PMDG 737NGX with around 10 add-ons e.g. mega airports do you think I have enough juice with these specs to run it comfortably? My Specs Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit 16GB Graphics nvidia GeForce GTX 760 2GB Hard Disk SSD 120 GBs Thank You Very Much Richard Richard Coombs
August 12, 201312 yr hmm think I'd still go for FSX Deluxe edition as it comes with the FSX SDK which may be useful later. System specs are moooor than adequate for FSX other than the SSD IF you go overboard with addon sceneries = bad habit of mine. August 12, 201312 yr Yes, you have ... Pls. note, it's not the "plane" number of addons you install, but the no. of addons that display at the same time (in the same spot) and the FSX graphics settings you choose. - Just a few addons with ultra-high texture sizes in the same spot will blow your sim. (A/C, airport, AI traffic, weather, all running with 4.096k textures) - 10 Mega airports spread around the world have about the same (lesser) impact as a single one installed. Before installing FSX search for: - PMDG article on how to uninstall/reinstall FSX - the AVSIM hardware and software guide - and Boyote's FSX.cfg tweaking site What happened to AVSIM
August 12, 201312 yr Cmon, that's like you ask someone "can my ferrari beat toyota prius in race?" I really hate when people do that  Lj. Prodanovic
August 12, 201312 yr I've been aching to get the FSX for a while, so thanks Greg i'll follow your kind advice and cut the umbilical cord with my FS2004 after many moons. Hi Richard, I was the exact same, especially after having FS2004 since release and many addons. I have been flying with FSX for a few years now and have never thought about going back, especially with all the amazing addons out there for it. August 13, 201312 yr hmm think I'd still go for FSX Deluxe edition as it comes with the FSX SDK which may be useful later. I believe it can be found online. Either that or comes with Acceleration as well. other than the SSD IF you go overboard with addon sceneries = bad habit of mine. Yeah, well, if I got rid of that 300GB SSD in my proposed rig, I could even afford it. But there is no way I could do with sim on a 120GB disk, even with system off the SSD (I really dont mind waiting a moment for the PC to boot up). Ideally I could do with something like 256+100GB. With a free slot for another 256 for X-plane in future. --Peter Fabian
