OpusFSX Beta Version 3.23.0 is now available

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.23.0 is now available for download on our website.

General DHM Options have been added to the FSXSERVER's Configuration dialog. These options allow general DHM and associated 'Bump Aircraft' turbulence to be enabled for VC view modes, 2D view modes, and other general view modes without needing the Live Camera interface to set up camera views. Separate options are provided to enable the general DHM (and aircraft turbulence) for VC view modes, 2D view modes, and all other view modes.

Each view mode has its own configurable DHM and Bump Aircraft settings that can be adjusted by the user to suit their system or personal taste. These General DHM Options create dummy camera views and employ the same real life captured 3D accelerometer data with options to reference either the light or heavy aircraft data sets. All turbulence effects are supervised by the Live Weather Engine (LWE) which considers numerous meteorological and ambient conditions. At present these settings are not used when Live Camera is enabled.

In the future the General DHM Options will also provide a default option with Live Camera, to be used for all views that do not specify DHM.

The accelerometer data was recorded on board our own light aircraft and on board a 737-800. A large amount of turbulent motions were recorded in over 20 hours of flying and over several flights in a 737-800. Be warned, turbulence is generally a violent action, hence the use of the phrase Bump Aircraft!

Both the head movements and synchronised aircraft motions are controlled directly from this recorded data. You will not find any slow 'see saw' or 'gentle rocking' motions in this data, that is not how turbulent motion is in real life, if it were there would be far more sick bags on board aircraft and far fewer fasten seat belt signs. Turbulent motions can result in pilots banging their heads on the canopy, they can knock passengers off their feet, slam them to the floor or even against the ceiling.

Gentle 'rocking' motions, or 'see saw' motions do not have this affect and no aircraft behaves this way in any level of, or any form of, turbulent air. Turbulence bumps and jolts the aircraft and pilot around, jostling the aircraft in the air, dipping wings and generally upsetting the straight and level flight, but never gently rocking the aircraft to and fro.

No gentle rocking motions were evident in over 20 hours of recorded data and monitoring the aircraft motions. Neither have we encountered any such turbulent motions in nearly 20 years of flying and thousands of hours flying around Europe, mostly low level in turbulent and thermic conditions.

If you are using or thinking of using these Betas please register and communicate your findings in our SimForums Live Camera topic. We are in the process, with other users, of conducting test flights, mostly in light aircraft, so that the new Bump Aircraft (with or without Live Camera) altitude bump effects can be calibrated for users systems. A new Beta may be released tomorrow morning with an adjustment reducing the altitude bumps to better accommodate all FSX light aircraft.

The Release Version containing the new General DHM Effects, including Bump Aircraft turbulence, will be posted as soon as the beta testing phase has completed.

Thinking of buying Stephen, a couple of queries;

  1. Will you develope Opus to be installed entirely on a client computer
  2. Can you post a video of the turbulent bump effects

Thanks

Awesome, great to hear.

Will try a flight tonight.

Hi Andrew

It is not a high priority at the moment since OpusFSX is designed not have any impact on the performance of FSX. In fact moving the LWE to a client PC  may be less efficient than our current implementation.

We do have client side live weather control i.e. entering weather or flight plan data, or requesting reports via the client dialogs, for client side live weather control no license, FSX, or FSUIPC4 is needed on the client.

Videos by their very nature don't capture the DHM as well as it appears on your PC but we do have some videos on our gallery page to give you an idea of how realistic our DHM is, it is intelligently linked to the met conditions and is real life captured accelerometer flight data.

We have a free demo version of OpusFSX and also a 30 day refund policy.

Cheryl

I will try this tonight. I had to stop using the camera/DHM effects because of issues with TrackIR. Also, lately it was making my aircraft handle weird during turbulence. It made then fly like they were all airbus aircraft for lack of a better word. I would turn and then let go and it would keep the exact angle/bank. Really sharp and precise movements. I disabled the camera and it went back to normal.

I really want the DHM so I will install tonight after work and post in your forums.

Some aircraft sims have trouble keeping up with our Bump Aircraft effect so if you have any problems try disabling this to see of it helps matters.

Cheryl

Either way I will try and report my findings. I see people with and without issues using place such as the Dash 8 by Majestic, so I know it is not the problem, I know it is on my end, hopefully this will fix it for me, if not, I will keep trying, as Opus is one great program. Thanks for the continued support and updates on your product. It is nice to be able to invest in a product, and have it supported like you guys/gals support yours.

Thanks William

I should also mention a Lower Frequency option has been added to the Bump Aircraft settings in the DHM dialog to cater for problematic aircraft sims, such as the Dash 8, that cannot cope with the higher frequency turbulent motions so that would be worth a try too.

Regards
Cheryl

Fantastic. Will have to try that as the Majestic, with all its quirks is becoming my goto aircraft more and more.

Just another thing it puts you in a default view in the cockpit when the DHM is active can this be changed by the cameras? As it has me sitting a bit low in the seat. Wayne :)

We are shortly going to release a new beta with the initial version of Live Camera Control which will mean you can move about using our control dialog with arrow buttons.

At the moment if you are not using Live Camera then you must edit your camera config file and adjust the seat position there since we cannot read adjustments made via FSX controls, all we can use is the FSX default position. If you use Live Camera then you can of course adjust and save the view.

Currently the General DHM Options are mutually exclusive with Live Camera so you can only use one or the other, but we plan to introduce options to use both, General DHM will be used when you don't have a view for the currently selected aircraft defined in Live Camera.

Cheryl

Will DHM work niw with a TrackIR? I've read numerous posts about issues with the combination TrackIR and Opus....I really hope DHM will work now.

It works very well indeed, just set it up carefully as per the guide. Some users need to set the new TrackIR High Priority option to ensure smooth TrackIR head movements (the only option that was missing from early versions).

Stephen

Going to have to head back over to your site I think. I tried it, using just general DHM checked, renamed the TrackIr files for Simconnect, and had even worse flashes and jerkiness in the majestic and A2A spitfire.

On a side not though, if I paused Trackir, it worked beautifully.
