Haswell Temp/Voltage Comparison & Stability

Featured Replies

As for my temps in FSX with my 4.5 no HT OC, here they are:

Average: 63c to 65c

Max temp: 72c for core1 (which is always 2-3c higher than the rest); max only occurs when flying in heavy weather

Room Ambient: 74f

The delid is a tiny bit tempting; in a year or so I might get around to it.  For now I have all the speed I need so I'll enjoy my "bird in the hand" for a while.  I've cleanly booted at 4.8Ghz at 1.3v, but it did lockup running a non-avx stress test; I was only curious how far I could get and abandoned testing after that.  Here's a sample:

To get Haswell to 5ghz FPU stable can be hard you ned a chip that do 1.35v 5ghz 100% stress stable.

Did some tests with the SS different FPU tests. any comments ar welcome.

"Hi

My 4770 is a really bad chip. Not delidded yet

Its stable 4.6 1.25 it booth to win at 4.7 not stable

H110 4.6 1.3v stable Aida and prime little to high temps

LC 2xD5 560 rad 4.8 Aida prime high temps fsx 4.9 rockstable 1.42v

SS -40C 5.2 ghz 1.48v Aida prime you name it 100% stable

Run my new mems 2666 8 12 12 31 1T 1.7v they do 2800 8 12 12 31 1T 1.9v"

So westman, by really bad you mean the best chip I've ever heard of? Or is this immature/trolling?

Willing to bet my personal machine against the fact that not only are you not stable at those speeds and voltages (especially with a non delidded chip lol) but your not even posting.

Everyone witnessed me calling you out. Screenshots or it didn't happen. I hate when people do this kinda crap. It has the opposite effect they are intending (épéen shrinkage) but it harms people looking for data that aren't in the know.

People getting 4.6 stable WITH a delid and under a custom kit at those voltages have a good/better than average chip. Just to clear things up.

Sigh

Kind of hard Words , what do you want to clear up ?

Thanks for bringing this thread back up. Id forgotten about it.

Personally, I'm hating my 4770k. Currently running @4.4ghz but i can't get it stable. My vcore is running at 1.31v jumping to 1.37v under very high loads. Cant even run prime in blend as the temps for the fpu test rocket from around 73°c up to 100°c. So i'm guessing I've got a bad chip.

I've had the bsod from running fsx and not even in a stressful situation. (Out over the ocean with a simple biplane for example.

I'm really starting to pull my hair out. My old 2500k would clock at 4.8ghz with no issue. Sigh!

Hi

a very easy way to test if you got a bad chip is to set locked vcore 1.25v begin with multi 42 ,43,44,45,46,47,48 all the way up to wher it dont load win.

at 1.25vvcore loading OS less than 4.6ghz is crap 4.7-4.8 normal 5.9 -5.1 golden. dont forget to set mems at 1333mhz less load on memory controller.

a have test 5-6 4670k and 10 4770k the span on 15 cpus was from 4.4 to 4.9 most normal was 4.6-4.7 in general 4670k is 100mhz behind the 4770K.

I was clear, let's see some images of a non delid 4770k running stable at 4.9, I'll even give you a free pass on the voltage. However I know it's arguably an impossibility so I don't know why I bother. What was it u said? Bad chip? Oh no you said..... Very bad chip. Roflmao.

Anyhow, like I had said and I thought I was clear. Misinformation doesn't help ANYONE, at some point even the poster will realize that.

lol he's delusional. Cross check your bad info against a real enthusiast site guy. I wish. You know how many people have posted an overclock at 5.0 or higher so far? Of the thousands of members on OCN? 1..... Lol. And that was with phase change. (Using refrigerant to cool the cpu to sub ambient temperature) and a delid!

Please don't listen to him lest you fry your chip guys. Don't say i didn't warn ya. 1.25 at 4.4 on a non delid chip with anything short of water and you will likely be throttling.

Not sure how I found this site, but phew its a good thing I did. Fwiw everyone's info looks in line, sound and legit, apart from mr. 4.9 at 1.25 on a non delid chip at that lol. Wouldn't even foster a post unless you were extremely fortunate.

I may have even let that slide until you were pompous enough to say those were sbpecs that a "bad chip" would provide. Lol perhaps your confusing haswell with an amd cpu or the 3 series.

Anyways, everyone is free to pick your poison, post back after every member of this site (except you of course) has results that don't come near that.

Certainly a way to confirm your greatness then right? After all you did 4.9 stable at 1.25 on a non delid chip. Awaiting those pics

Thanks westman. I'll check it out when I get home, but I'm not optimistic. For the sake of clarity my system is following.

Asus Z87 pro mobo

I7 4770k

8gb corsair vengeance ram @ 1866

Nvidia 680 4gb gpu,

750watt power supply

1 120gb ssd

2 x 1Tb wd black hdd.

Corsair H100i cooler.

With the bios options left in auto, I couldn't run anywhere above 4.2ghz with any chance of stability. If fact, I even had a bsod at 4.2ghz. Anyway. Will lock at 1.25 and cross my fingers.

Best wishes,

Jess B

That sounds like a very, very bad chip.

Diasable Turbo boost also when you do the tests,

Good luck

Well that sucks.

Here are the results.

Upto 4.4ghz. Boot to windows.

4.5. Bsod

4.4ghz boots in at 1.25v, but the minute I start prime, its back to the bsod.

So it looks like I have a really bad chip. Sigh.

Btw Westman, I couldn't disable turbo boost as it wouldn't allow me to overclock at all. Did you mean speedstep?

I not familiar with Asus bios , but a run manual think it is ai overclock tuner in Asus bios.

Then a disable turbo mode .

Anway you was not lucky in the chip lotteria , similar to My worst 4670k all 4770k a have test was better.

Better luck next time

Hasse

Thanks Hasse,

I'll look into it tomorrow. Currently testing with a nice long flight. Pmdg 747 @ 4.4ghz 1.32 vcore.
