August 22, 201312 yr Hi! I just installed the latest build, but there are no updated WX in FSX. The FSXServer only states updating, but nothing happens. There is contact, because I get the OPUS popup's inside FS, and it worked fine yesterday. Anyone? August 22, 201312 yr Commercial Member I have the same issue at the moment. It worked then didn't on the next weather update. Must be their end Clive Joy
August 22, 201312 yr Commercial Member Someone else has reported intermittent problems with the NOAA server this morning and I am not having much joy at the moment connecting. If you have Adjust Options Automatically enabled you could work with simulated winds by specifying a cruise height of less than 6000 feet to disable GRIB. Otherwise if Adjust Options Automatically is not enabled then untick GRIB download in the Weather Download options. Cheryl If the GRIB server is down you could always just fly with simulated upper winds. I have plans on implementing a 'Reuse Previous GRIB Data' option or command to cover these occasions in the future, at least using old GRIB data would be better for some.Stephen
August 22, 201312 yr Just for the statistics, i'm getting stuck at the 'Connecting to the GRIB server' as well. I'll work around it with above suggestions, thanks. Mark
August 22, 201312 yr Commercial Member I will soon be adding the 'Reuse...' Option. The Connecting To Server and other messages were introduced July 4th when the server was down for ages. NOAA have announced they are in the process of upgrading or working on the server so this looks like they are at it now. Should be back in line soon with USA becoming more active. Stephen
August 22, 201312 yr Commercial Member We have just released a new beta 3.24.1 to enable you to use your previously downloaded GRIB data. This is useful when the NOAA server is unavailable. Just enable the 'Use Previous GRIB data' option in the Weather dialog and tick 'Disable Weather Update on Startup'. Update the Weather manually. The new option will be unticked by default on startup of OpusFSX. Cheryl
August 26, 201312 yr Any word yet on NOAAs servers? They should be up by now. I cant imagine they would be down this long. Using previous GRIB data doesnt work when flight planning is for current winds and its hard to judge what it will be. Anyone else with success? August 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member The NOAA servers were only down intermittently on 22nd, they were fine after that and they are working fine today for us. I believe there was a problem yesterday with the VATSIM servers. Cheryl

I believe there was a problem yesterday with the VATSIM servers. Cheryl Your kidding. I still can't get any data. Pressing grib report or upper and lower winds aloft has no data. I've turned on and off all the different weather download settings in different combinations but still nothing. I just installed latest beta and no differences other than Metar station weather. August 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member The usual advice is set all defaults in all weather dialogs. You may have an option such as Import METARs From File, or Download Historic Data set, or perhaps selected a different weather server and that server is offline. If you have Adjust Options Automatically enabled in the weather dialog and have configured a Max Cruise Altitude greater than 6000 feet then GRIB data will be downloaded. If you don't have Adjust Options Automatically enabled then enable Download GRIB Forecast Data in the Weather Download Options dialog. Are you getting any error messages in the Weather Report window (can't connect to server) or in the spy window? You can delete everything except the degrib.exe program from your OpusFSX\GRIB folder. If this doesn't work reinstall OpusFSX since the degrib.exe program may be corrupted. Is the FSXSERVER program blocked from accessing the Internet? Cheryl
August 26, 201312 yr Im using beta 3.25. Ive set everything to default as suggested, with cruise at FL350. Internet is not blocking it , as I can see local weather, including in the spy window. In the spy window, local weather messages appear normal, but when clicking get grib data, the spy window doesnt do anything else. Same with in sim menu of getting winds alof. Just says no data present. I deleted the grib folder files all except degrib.exe but still nothing. Now however there is a curious thing, that I got with the previous beta, is that when closing I have a "unhandled exception" error and can only close down opus by killing it in a process explorer manager. I thought uninstalling and reinstalling a new beta would fix that. Seems that restoring my camera files before has really messed all of it up, teaching anyone whos reading this to export their current camera files within opus rather than just backing up opus directory. August 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member Not sure what you mean by clicking get GRIB data, there is no option to request download, it is downloaded automatically when you specify a cruise altitude of 6000 feet or above (assuming you have all default options set and hence the automatic and sim friendly options set). The GRIB data is downloaded or checked before downloading the METARs. After download a cycle forecast will remain valid for 9.5 hours and contains 360 hours of global forecast data. After updating the weather have you checked the on screen Upper and Lower Atmosphere reports, or the GRIB text report, or cruise level weather maps. If you have data listed in the Upper and Lower reports then you are using GRIB data, the cycle time code will be shown in the report. If it needs to download the GRIB data file, the Upper report will be displayed automatically to report the progress if the download. What is this showing? It will report the connection to the server, the download progress, extracting, decoding, reading and finally preparing the weather data. But all this assumes you have set all defaults, including Adjust Options Automatically. The GRIB data download and decoding is also reported in the Spy window, it occurs before the METAR download. Please refer to our SimForums Using the Live Weather Engine for details of recommended practices. The FSXSERVER program maintains automatic backups of all your CAM files, convienently date stamped so you can roll back to when you want. Check your Spy and Upper reports though to see exactly what is happening with your GRIB download. You will need to force an Update of the Weather to get things going. Beta version 3.26 has been posted today. Also make sure you do not have two copies of OpusFSX folders anywhere, any backup should be made into a suitably named folder. Stephen I should have mentioned GRIB data can only be downloaded when you are on the ground before flight, it will not be downloaded when airborne, only your old GRIB data will be reused. So make sure you are on the ground before takeoff, or after landing open the weather dialog and untick the Use Previous GRIB Data option. Stephen
August 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member One final point there is no difference between exporting camera definitions into a CDF or just simply relying on the backed up CAM files. The date stamped backup CAM files contain all your camera definitions whereas a CDF just contains the ones you selected to be exported. That is the only difference. With the latest betas if you look in your OpusFSX folder you will find a number of date stamped CAM files, the cameras are backed up each time you click on OK or Save options in the Camera dialog. You can obviously use all available mechanisms, exporting and just backing up your CAM, CDF, CFG, LIM, and DAT files. I just backup my OpusFSX in its entirety into an OpusFSX_Backup folder. Stephen

The GRIB data download and decoding is also reported in the Spy window, it occurs before the METAR download. Going thru each of your points above... The weather updates, and downloading, extracting GRIB data and so forth goes thru the motions. I know this worked because the GRIB folder is full again. Choosing upper or lower atmosphere report gives no data at present. Choosing get GRIB data report and viewing in the window does nothing other than 'Show GRIB data report' but nothing else follows nor does a text file show up like before. point 3 above, I went through the motions of setting everything to default, which it indeed does. Then I see it go through the downloading motions once again. However still nothing happens. I go into the opus control panel again and there is nothing that was saved from choosing defaults. In other words its not saving. I even put my destination in and it goes back to my flight a few days ago. Will not save. First thing that comes to mind is that it is not set to run as administrator even though I did set that. It is indeed administrator run. Next thing I did was uninstall the current beta and install the latest you just mentioned. Exactly the same thing is happening. There is no other opusfsx folder other than in a backup image folder but it is set within its own program file and not within the common file structure. It is also on a seperate drive altogether. I still get a persistent unhandled exception error trying to close opus. Seems like i have to do an entire reinstall unless you have any other ideas. August 27, 201312 yr Commercial Member What GRIB messages do you get in the spy window? Check to see if it is downloading and extracting and decoding. You can scroll to see the messages before the METARs are downloaded. I've not heard of an unhandled exception error when trying to close opus. Perhaps your degrib.exe program has been corrupted. My advice would be to download the new release version 3.30 which will be posted today, uninstall, delete your OpusFSX GRIB folder and reinstall the new release. Then double check your sharing and security and check the GRIB folder is shared and accessible. Cheryl
