FSGRW: where the heck is the option Start Weather Transfer?

Featured Replies

I must be totally stupid but I've installed the FSGRW demo, I started a flight as the manual told me to, I am parked, I switch to FSGRW and now I should select the option called Start Weather Transfer:

"Choose the version of your simulator from the drop-down-menu and click  Start Weather Transfer."

But there is no version of my simulator to choose and there is no Start Weather Transfer...? I am stupid or what...??? I must be missing something obvious but after looking for it for ten minutes and wanting to fly badly I decided to ask it here...

BTW Is it correct that I can only download a weather file and that I can NOT download Dynamic or Static Weather...?

EDIT
I restarted FSGRW to see if that made any difference: it didn't but I found out I used 5 of my 20 demo points already...? Nice...

Do not load dynamic weather in demo mode.

Well, I CAN'T so I certainly won't... ^_^ I suppose you are wanting to say that every 'dynamic' download will cost me a point. That's why I wanted to download Static weather but since I can't, I opted for downloading a weather file. But I can't use it at all..l

EDIT

Ok, hold it, I found out how it works... I have to Download Weather File and after that I have to choose actually Load Weather File... and on THAT screen I can indeed see the options I need... Still odd that I can't download Static Weather and have to use this workaround, but well...I think I got it now.

Yes, in the demo mode dynamic and static wx are blocked off so you have to dl the wx file then transfer it. Use up your demo points and enjoy. If you decide to purchase it then you'll be able to use all functions. It's a very good and accurate wx program. I like using the static feature, you dl the planets wx and just fly all day long :)

Download then load, enjoy then buy....think that's how it works!

No your not stupid at all Jeroen  -  The FSGRW manual is terrible !!

Eg....Anyone figured out what on Earth the Auotstart section is talking abou? .... or how to set it up?

I wouldn't necessarily assume thats how the weather is based off of the demo. I have the full version and I can honestly say its the best weather engine I have ever bought. The demo only gave me a slight look into how it was.. There is so much more weather coverage than the other weather engines out there and honestly there is no sudden weather changes, everything is a smooth transition from the winds all the way up to how the clouds move...

Not sure how to set up Autostart either (was wondering too), for some reason I thought it was supposed to be automated or there is a script to create in ourder to have FSGRW autostart... Either way I don't really think the manual has to be that detailed since there really isnt much to the program on our end... mostly everything is self-explanatory and the things that arent are explained in detail inside of the weather programs options..

Yeah but autostarting is a big convenience, and if FSGRW has the feature, it figures they should want to actually tell us how it works!

Well, there was on my PC... and that was already after a few minutes. Honestly. ^_^ Maybe the weather itself didn't change but the depiction of it sure did!!! As I said in that other post: I had a hazy sky above me and suddenly it was overcast. I don't call that smooth. So no matter what everyone says: if I see that on my PC, why should I bother buying FSGRW...? The only thing I did like was FSGRW seems to give more turbulence or whatever you call that: I noticed the plane was slightly moving all the time, which felt realistic. But that's not enough to make me spend 40 euro's.

I think folks are getting hung up on the term "autostart".

All the manual is explaining is the way to specify some command line paraemeters, so that FSGRW will start with those options rather than requiring the user to manually select the options.

Now, down the road it would be nice if that could be done within the program and those saved as alternate shortcuts with the parameters already specified..

Try this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\FSGRW\FS Global Real Weather.exe" dynamic fsx 5 y n

Works like a charm :)

Works like a charm :)

Not with the demo though. ^_^ Maybe that's why Dave didn't succeed in getting it to work. But I also posted that in the other topic about weather engines... Maybe I should have posted my initial question in that topic anyway because now there are two topics talking about autostart. ^_^
