Identifying Scenery Objects

Featured Replies

Hey guys, well i just finished up My El-nido Scenery for my newly created Miniloc Island and im ready to share it, thing is i have used many objects but really would hate to list and looked them up one by one i do have Instant scenery 3 ans it does label the objects and object Lib name but its would still take up allot of time for me to list the objects  one by one Is there a utility out there that will generate an XML file  for the BGL Containing all the objects and listing there Library names in text to make this step allot easier?

Example of what im looking for (I do have BGL2XMLEXE) And it does convert the BGL to an XML it also allows me to see the Scenery Objects LON/LAT And name but this is what i get

This is the be expected when you use other developers objects. if you know the library, just use the windows search for the scenery and make sure you have permission first from each developer that you used.

No need to list objects one-by-one, only the libraries they come from.

IS2 will list the used object libraries for you, I would assume IS3 does also.

Unfortunately there is no way to export this data so you have to type up the list yourself.

You will learn to start this list when you add your first object to your next project instead of trying to do at the end.

For now you have no choice other than to create the list youself.

Joe

I use IS2 and if you click the question mark button you'll get a report of the libs used, just select from top to bottom with your mouse cursor, press CTRL+C, and then paste it into Notepad.

Well i guess the resort will be for my personal use only, I pulled up the list of some objects i've used and  some are from payware packages I've purchased in the Pass and wont be able to release it without permission But the island i  itself is available in the library section

I regularly go though the list of object libraries that show up in IS, identify those that are proprietary, and add xxx_ to the beginning of those file names. So terminal_katl.bgl would be renamed to xxx_terminal_.bgl. This moves all proprietary libraries to the bottom of the list, which makes the list less cluttered and serves as a reminder to me that I shouldn't use those objects without permission from the author.

Great Tip thanks for this ;-)

Ha ha. Should have read "terminal_katl.bgl would be renamed to xxx_terminal_katl.bgl.

Some years ago Jon Masterson made a wonderful program called Library Object Manager. It was basically a cataloging/searching system for scenery objects. It was a great time saver when you couldn't remember which !#@$%~!! library had those white painted tires in it.  Did all sorts of other great stuff as well. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to like Windows 7, but Jon's incorporated some of its features into ADE9X as part of that programs' ability to place scenery objects. LOM was the only program like it I've ever seen, and I miss it.  :(

Jon, you're not allowed to feel guilty after all the great programs you've given us scenery builders. I'm amazed at the amount of time you've put into all this over the years and then given away the results of your efforts. You are one of the pillars of the FS community, and I can't thank you enough.  :drinks:
