August 26, 201312 yr I have been working with the 737NGX for months now (just about the only plane I fly). Done the tutorials, follow this forum, but have two problems: 1) In the FMC, I have worked through in correct order entering all data, including cruise altitude and then a saved flight plan, which includes a STAR with an (expected) altutude restriction ("expect to cross LOOTH at 11,000 on the ROYKO STAR at Chicago). When I look at the LEGS page, my enroute altitudes are not the entered cruise altitude, but the restriction on the STAR for each leg. I cannot enter the cruise altitude in the legs without the "atitude restriction at LOOTH" message. I can correct this by deleting the LOOTH altitude restriction and then the cruise altitudes are correct on the LEGS page, but I don't think I should have to do this. Should I not have the STAR in the saved flight plan, and enter the STAR in the FMC AFTER I have loaded the plan ? Probably some simple procedure that I have missed. Any suggestions ? 2) After starting engines, throttles want to advance to about 60% N1 when I select IDLE either with my joystick or using F1 key. Throttles retard, then advance again to 60%. PFD indicates TO1 is selected. Is that as it should be ? Thanks for any help on these (minor, but annoying) problems. Other than these, everything else works fine. Dave Hinson David Hinson

How did you get the saved flightplan? If you got it from some external program like FSBuild or the like, try entering the flight plan by hand yourself to see if you get the same issue. 2) After starting engines, throttles want to advance to about 60% N1 when I select IDLE either with my joystick or using F1 key. Throttles retard, then advance again to 60%. PFD indicates TO1 is selected. Is that as it should be ? Sounds like a hardware issue. Try unplugging your throttle and start the engines without it there at all. If there's no issue after starting, you'll have to sort it out with the hardware (calibration, etc). Kyle Rodgers
August 26, 201312 yr 1. Do not save flightplan with terminal procedures (SID/STAR, trans, approach). And do not enter cruise altitude in the legs for each waypoint. 2. Try recalibrate your joystick. Rostyslav S Wanna fly 737NGX with turbulence?
August 26, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the quick responses. All seem reasonable. Thought it might be a joystick problem. I have an old Logitech Wingman Attack 2. Dave David Hinson
August 28, 201312 yr Author It was the joystick throttle. I have upgraded the driver for Logitech stick, but haven't tried it out yet. And I see from the Houston tutorial that the waypoints are entered before the SID and STAR, although it was not noted that entries HAD to be made in that order. Thanks for the help. Dave David Hinson
August 28, 201312 yr And I see from the Houston tutorial that the waypoints are entered before the SID and STAR, although it was not noted that entries HAD to be made in that order. Well, they don't have to... technically. But you need to be ready for peculiarities such as this... --Peter Fabian
