Games flight simmers may enjoy

Featured Replies

As we all know the average age of the civil flight simmers is way higher than for all those fps/rts/rpg genres. There is not many Quake kiddies that finds their way over here.Perhaps only beaten in average age by the railroad simulators :)I also suspect there is many here who solely plays FS 200X and never other games. I think these people may really miss something. You have people who buy very high end computers yet they don

An interesting post, but really, who has time for any other games :-lol(I occasionally fire up CFS2 or Madden NFL football, but generally the adrenaline rush I get from them isn't as interesting to me as the tension of an IFR approach or the relaxation of a beautiful VFR flight through stunning scenery)BlairCYOW

Second that.Gave up playing Mechwarrior and alikes a long time ago. No time (2 children, wife, bodybuilding,...), no more interest (I'm an aviation and sim addict). Andreas

I now have to divide my time between FS2004, Pacific Fighters, and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. Let see what we'll have during the next holiday season. I bet I will have a hard time dividing my time between those, Gran Turismo 4, and Metal Gear Solid 3 :) japangg

I tried the Thief3 demo. I sort of liked it but even the demo got repetetive toward the end..maybe it's because I wasn't very good at the game :) - I kept getting killed and had to reload the game constantly which got boring pretty quickly.I really don't play that many games other than FS and other flightsims these days. I kind of like Morrowind though, especially with all the addon packs and mods that are available for it. Can't wait for the sequel, Oblivion.

Yes Morrowind was my favourite game of all time. Now it seems KOTOR have a big chance actually competing against it though I haven

About 9 or 10 years ago, I tore my rotator cuff while pushing the envelope of my skiing ability. (OK, I'll admit it. I left the envelope back in the lodge, and I was WAY beyond what I could handle.) Anyway, before I went in for surgery I picked up Civilization II, which at that point was a new game. I still play it occasionally, even though the alluring video of Cleopatra's emissary no longer plays on my XP system the way it did on Win95.A Civ-2 offshoot, Call to Power, was such an awkward user interface that the game was unplayable. I never got beyond the Tutorial.Pharoah, on the other hand, is another Civ-type game that focuses on economics. I spent some late nights with this one. By now, it's an "older game" and can be picked up for 10 bucks in a bargain bin. Well worth it, and like most older games, it doesn't require the latest mega-pentium to run it.Lost in antiquity is Harpoon. The later releases have come with "revisions" that broke everything, but the original game still had all the best aspects of a military sim. Yes, you had to use your imagination to see the Tomcats screaming off the catapults, but the game contained enough randomness that you could still re-play the same battles many times and never get the same outcome.

I must be the old kid having time for FS then! I personaly enjoy Doom3 and all of the Rainbow 6 serie, especialy Raven Shield!

Yes I have almost forget about the Rainbow 6 games. I have played all except Raven shield. I am just to lousy coming up with good strategies I really suck at those games. My hostages always dies.Doom 3 was a major let down for me. Underneith the surface ID haven

Most (80%?) of my gametime still goes into FS9!Having played flightsim from the early days (FS1 on AppleII)I've also DOOMed quite a bit, but I haven't gotten round to doom3 and I don't feel attracted to it. The early Doom games (and Wolfenstein3D!) were quite tongue in cheek with some silly monsters but the new one only looks drab and grim to me.I was into golf and F1 racing for a bit too for a while. The Simcity series is an old standby as well of course, but with my harddisk filling up with scenery and aircraft for FS I recently replaced it with Rome Total War, which is really unbelievable. I bought it originally for the tremendous 3D battles, but the campaign game turns out to be quite captivating too...that one is going to be a real classic! (no pun intended)Best,Martijn

OK, I spend most of my time with FS but do occassionally enjoy letting off some steam in Joint Operations (don't buy it as a helicopter sim though!!). Huge worlds with tons of people playing online. My experience has demonstrated that clearly the US military is better off without me!FS simmers like complexity and having games "as real as they get". Well, if you like hockey then the MSFS equivalent is ESPN Hockey 2005. I played EA Sports NHL Hockey for years but there is no comparison. The ESPN AI is way better and pretty much anything you can do on the ice you can do in this game (well, actually I can't do that much on the ice!).Most of my simming revolves around flight, though, and when I am looking for a real challenge I revert back to Xavius' ATC simulator (xavius.com). It sure seems simple enough when it starts but doesn't take long to get in the weeds. I can't wait for the next version which has been "coming soon" for way too long. I thought ATC Simulator 2 was a good simulator until I got hooked on Xavius and saw what reality is really like. They have a great online community too - many are controllers or students.David

For me, these are the only games on my system:FS2004Operation Flashpoint (& Resistance expansion pack)Championship Manager 03-04 (Soon to become Football Manager 2005)Pro Evolution Soccer 3 (Winning Eleven 7 in USA)I have enough trouble finding time to play these without adding more!

he he...When I am tired of civil flight sim I play Call of duty, (kind of love those WWII FPS games)

Hello All,Well, I had a long time love affair with Sports Car GT, although I haven't touched it in awhile, and Clancy's Rainbow Six. Hmmm, guess that tells alot about me LOLBest,Claywww.dreamfleet2000.com/Previews/727/preview_home.html|http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/Forum_Banners/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. So many memories. Yeah Sport cars GT was great. Anyway GTR is just around the corner too. It has support for TrackIR and everything and promises to be the most realistic GT series racer ever :)That is a game I have on preorder. Richard Burns Rally is also the only realistic rally sim ever created with some competition from Rally Trophy so that is a must if you love a challenge. It get really poor reviews because it
