Interesting post Par. Thief3 sounds intriquing.I'll have to put in a plug for Pacific Fighters. While staying in the flying genre, it provides the added challenge of carrier ops, with rolling decks, amazing landing dynamics, beautiful water, great damage/crash effects, and you get the chance to actually fire the guns.Todd

I would think MS Train Simulator would be a natural choice as an alternative game. I haven't tried it as well as other combat flying games only bercause I'm afraid I'll get hooked on those too!

My favourite, and only, three games:1. FS20042. FS93. ACOFIf there were more than 24 hours in a day, I'd think of a fourth, maybe. But I need to eat.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

I agree about Doom.I liked PainKiller. Very simple because all you do is just kill everything. I find it has a lot of repley as I try to do levels faster and with only a certian gun or better yet only the PainKiller.Jon

Alternative Game #1...Battlefield 1942LOVE IT. Loved it since it released two years ago - while I haven't used any addons or modifications, the game holds it's own. The online play with it's dedicated fans (and a relatively low number of online morons) makes for great times. I'm a beast on the PT boat's minigun - watch out if I see you flying above! Alternative Game #2...Rise of NationsGreat strategy game. VERY difficult on the higher settings when playing against the computer - but fun nonetheless. Good if you enjoyed Alternative Game #3....Scenery Work!I can't fly all the time, so I spend it with the sim in other ways. I am in the midst of a project to design my girlfriend's Dad's airstrip and house, as well as a photoreal project near my own house. Makes you feel like you are getting some things done that otherwise wouldn't happen. Good stuff... good stuff...

I guess you need to eat but don't need to sleep. Sleep is way over rated anyway. There are nights, I have had a hard time getting to bed when playing with FS2004. Feel asleep at the yoke a couple times. Not a pretty sight.

MS Train Simulator definitely had possibilities but IMO it never received the critical mass it needed to be successful. Driving a train is far more complex than it seems on the outside (even I admit to joking about it before the sim came out!). There are "maps" for driving a train almost as complicated as instrument approaches that allow you to anticipate changes in terrain and curves, etc. Unfortunately that stuff was never made available (I tried making my own but didn't get very far). It was too difficult to make addons for it, although some exist. Lastly, even with the best video card available at the time, it never ran that well on my system. It's too bad it died with the first version. The scenery in MSFS is almost good enough to support a train system within it, I would think. It would be very cool to have trains running with planes online!David

Besides FS2004, I'm currently playing GTA San Andreas on PS2

My favorites besides FS9 with PMDG 737-700 areAmerica's Army <-- I am really enjoying this..but I not that goodESPN NFK 2K5 on the XBOX <-- Weekly Team Prep takes effortRainbow Six 3 on the XBOXI have to accept the fact that these all take time to master and time is at a premium.

Sorry for breaking the "no flight sim rule" here, but try PF on full realism settings if you haven't. Some aircraft are easier than others.

Yes I have. And yes some are less worse but if you compare it with the previous versions it

Thanks for the tip about "Magna Cum Laude", I had enjoyed the previous LLL series and was tempted to buy this one. I'll save my money.Aside from FS2004, the game I play the most is NASCAR Racing 2003 with all the 2004 updates, and most of the mods (Busch Series, Craftsman Truck Series, IROC, AeroWars, and Trans Am).I've downloaded demos for GTR and Richard Burns Rally and both look promising. The Colin McCrae 5 demo didn't last an hour on my hard drive.Jim

I play America's Army, Flight Sim, and ASRC online @ VATSIM.:-)
