September 1, 201312 yr That must be a relief. Even though I understand it's necessary here in the US I find it pretty annoying being controlled serveral times on the way to my plane. I always feel like I've done something wrong that might be a threat to the entire nation. The best is if you ever get a chance to go up to Northern Canada. Up there they have 737 operations and no security before boarding the aircraft. As these routes are used by a lot of hunters it is possible to board a 737 with hunting rifles and no going through a metal detector. I can't think of any other western nation that would allow that. I remember the US Government trying to put a stop to it thinking the Terrorist could just show up in the Arctic by boat and get on a 737 with hunting rifles.....Canadian Government said nope, this is the way of life in Canada's North. Good that they stood their ground on that one. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

There wouldn't be a real target for terrorists up in the North and as soon as they head towards the US or at least towards a bigger city that might be of interest for them they would have to go through security anyway.

The US is within its right to shoot down any jet that enters its airspace as a possible terrorist controlled ship which could hit the new WTC or anything.....
September 2, 201312 yr Northern Canada By that do you mean beyond Calgary? Because I had to go through the security hoops there. Rick Almeida

I checked a couple of 737 operators (Air North and Air Inuit) and both only allow hunting firearms as checked baggage along with 5 kg of ammo, in other words exactly the same as the US. scott s. .
September 3, 201312 yr By that do you mean beyond Calgary? Because I had to go through the security hoops there. we are talking north of the 60th parallel so Calgary is way too far south. Are you sure about that? The article I read on it was on the CBC a couple of years ago. I am a news junkie with a good memory but a search of their website it didn't come up again. Probably deleted by now. The article was about Canadian Regulations north of the 60th parallel which is a lot of small combi fleet type operations, and in many cases no airport terminals at all. Mostly Dash 8's and some 737's. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
