September 4, 201312 yr Hi I have a question about the preconfigured cockpit states available in PMDG 777. I see three main states: 1. Cold and Dark 2. There is a state with Short label. 3. There is a state with Long label. What is the difference between 2 and 3 ? Secondly, in the tutorial available, the cockpit state that it starts with is in cold and dark, and we use Battery then APU to get some electrical power. I was wondering instead of APU, how can we provide External Power. From cold and dark state, my fmc is powered off so i can't request for ground connection. Any help would be appreciated. September 4, 201312 yr Hello, same problem for me, no FMC screen in cold and dark mode, I have to turn on the APU, I can't have the external Power.
September 4, 201312 yr Press and hold the menu key and you can access the fsactions. The panel states are described as named. They are for shorter and longer distance flights. George Morris
September 4, 201312 yr I love the ability to save the panel state. I just save it with pretty much all systems started without aligned IRS, CDU - just almost ready to fire up engines 1 & 2. While cold and dark is cool and all, it is highly unrealistic in the real world ops for the actual pilots to get into the cold and dark cockpit. Ps. I also would like to know how to connect external power without starting the APU. Jacek G. September 4, 201312 yr Read the intro gents... press and hold the CDU MENU key for a few moments and it will turn on thus allowing you to select FS Actions and connect ground air/power. Freight haulers may get into a cold and dark aircraft, but usually ground crew has preflight and left power on. Dan Downs KCRP
September 4, 201312 yr Short/Long doesn't describe anything related to flight length. Short is the panel state you would find the aircraft in if you were in a short turnaround situation, i.e., the plane lands, unloads, and will immediately be flying the next leg. Long is the panel state you would find the aircraft in if it was parked for a while between legs. In all reality, a captain would almost never find the aircraft at cold and dark. The maintenance crew would likely have at least a few things powered while running checks before the flight. -Matt
