After reading several very interesting post on Updating Microsoft Flight Simulator and adding my own thoughts it got me to ask this question of the Sim Aviation Community.

We know it is time for a new platform for sim flyers.

Who would you like to see come up with something new and would you be willing to change operating systems to do it!\?

X-Plane definitely is my most probable choice - it shows some enormous potential already. The problem is simply that I have spent that much money on this hobby already, and 99.9% of it went into FSX addons, so a new sim has to either be such an improvement over my current platform(in regards of performance, visuals, realism,...), or it has to be compatible with a large percentage of my addons, or it will not happen for me.

I would love to see MS put the Aces team back into action again and get back into the FS business, but for various (some quite obvious) reasons this will just not happen, and as stated above, if X-Plane shows more ambitions in the right direction, I might consider that an option. However, I will not change my OS - I dislike the Apple system, I've heard mainly bad things about Win8, and Win7 runs like a charm on all my computers.

Just out if interest. Where did that Apple choice come from? Asking because this is the first time I saw someone relating Apple to the sim in any way. So is it purely fictional or would there be an interesting source to read?

Would be nice if you included a selection to stick with the current sims we have now.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to stay with FS9/FSX.

I chose X Plane.  Unfortunately, the current XP10 has a very long way to go before I would consider it as a replacement for FS9/FSX.  I don't like Apple and I don't think a FS on an xbox console is a good idea, imo.

With all the quality add ons available on FS9/FSX, it would be difficult to give them up for a new sim where we have to wait years for something from PMDG for example.

But if I had to choose a new sim, I would want one built by the ACES team.  I know they're no more, but just sharing my thoughts.

Nature Boy

If I had to choose between those three alternatives I would find a new hobby...

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Rather loaded question, but assuming I had to choose one of the three... well I don't have an XBox and I don't have an Apple and don't intend (except when I'm window shopping) to buy a new setup for a better sim.

On my spending, it's also a bit difficult to estimate as some hardware changes were prompted by other needs, particularly music & photography, but were also of benefit to my simming so I divided the hardware and added that to the addons then guessed at about £400 in the last three years. (Skinflint eh?)

I chose XPlane because it was the only option compatible with a Windows PC. I don't think I'd buy an Apple or Xbox just for a new sim.

I'm not sure how much I've spent lately. I guessed $500 to $1000, but it would be closer to $500. I'm still on FS9 and WindowsXP so my spending has slowed in the last few years.

Where is None of the Above?
