RealAir Lancair Legacy or Duke package please help !

Featured Replies

Well...  One is a two seat unpressurized piston hot rod, the other a 6 seat pressurized turbine (which is also a bit of a hot rod in its own way, though of course uh... there are no rods ^_^ ).

One is fast down low and has excellent visibility, the other is fast up high and is a go-places through all sorts of wx with your friends and family on board kind of aircraft.  Both are of exceptional quality.  So... which of these roles appeals to you?

I have both and enjoy both.

Both appeal !! AHHHH !!!!!  Scot you have not helped lol !

I would go with the Legacy for now.  It is newer and has more 'goodies'.   The Duke is slated to get lots of updates that will bring it up to 'goodies' level of the Legacy, however I don't think it will be a 'free' update, so if you want the Duke, you might as well wait to buy the updated version.  The great news is that even the older RealAir products such as the Scout and SF-260 might eventually get those updates as well.

Cheers

The Legacy is the most current one and surely a good starter for fast flying. The piston Duke will soon receive an update to feature some of the Legacy effects and styles.

To roughly differentiate, I'd say that the Dukes are more for the IFR parts of the sim while the Legacy might stick to VFR ones or the IFR routes without serious weather interruptions as she doesn't have much equipment to counter e.g. icing. Your sim pilot also needs oxygen for going up high. Well, subtle downside in FSX.

Edited. I see TJ made the point on the current status before.

OK Guys that's swayed me. Legacy it is. Thanks for the input and spending my cash :-)

I've got both the Turbo Duke and the Lancair.  They're both excellent and you won't be disappointed with either one.

The Lancair has unobstructed views from the cockpit and rip-roaring airspeeds for its size.  It's a little tricky to land because it doesn't want to slow down.  If you buy it, you'll need to make sure your spoiler is assigned to a keyboard command and not a joystick axis (read the docs, it spells out clearly how to set it up).

The Turbo Duke is arguably the best twin engine turbine GA aircraft available for FSX.  Excellent handling, perfect flight model--excellence in every way.  You don't get the stellar views that you get with the Lancair, but that's a limitation of the aircraft itself, not a criticism of RealAir's model.

Both have beautiful virtual cockpits, silky-smooth gauges and are frame-rate friendly.  If you have it, you can easily replace the default GPS with Reality XP.  Most importantly, both have excellent flight models and are a joy to hand fly.  I never use the AP on these aircraft.

You want them both, trust me.

Duke version 2.0 coming out this month! Not sure about the turbine version though. The Legacy is a must-have and I expect the new Duke will be too.

 I'll go for the Legacy first of all. I've just re-discovered Flight Simming after probably an 8 year gap. I've been simming since 1980 but was mainly into the heavy metal in FS2004.

Just discovered the joys of VFR in conjunction with Orbx and really enjoying the hobby again.

Where did you learn the RA Duke v2.0 would be this month?

Kindly disregard. I saw it on the RA page.
