2-3 second freezes

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I've been running FSX smoothly for sometime and now out of the blue I'm experiencing 2 to 3 second freezes at different phrases of the flight. It appears to be random and I can't pinpoint a trigger. Sound will continue as normal and all is fine after the momentary freeze. Having Googled the issue someone with the same problem put blame on the FSDreamTeam Addon manager... Is there a way to uninstall this but keep the FSDT products in working order?

Many thanks for any help,

Mike

Are you running REX Essential? I just switched from AS2012 and it started, my sim freezes for 2-3 seconds but recovers :yahoo: .

"I just wanna tell you both: good luck. We're all counting on you."

I know many people have problems with FSDT products but this is the first time I have heard of the product causing intermittent freezes.  Can you provide the Google link?  Would like to do some further research on this.  This could be serious if true....  Only it is not true and you know it.  Making untrue or unsubstantiated accusations about a product can result in being banned from a topic or from AVSIM.  I think you know full well that uninstalling the Addon Manager would make the product worthless.  Plus there is a current and ongoing topic about the Addon Manager for FSDT and the Couatl security program it installs.  I think the developer has fully explained how the Addon Manager and Couatl works to keep FSDT and other developers like FlightBeam products working properly.  If you are getting intermittent freezes, look somewhere else.

I have virtually every airport they've made as well as the Flightbeam stuff that uses the same system. I'm not getting any freezes personally. I don't think it's going to be something as simple as that.

I am running REX but have been for some time... I will run without and see if that helps!

Could be the weather updating.

That could well match the consistency of them. Just bizarre as I haven't really played with those settings. Will try this today!

I don't want to post to a rival website as such, but first result on Google:

Granted the post is from September 2010, but having been through all the posts on this topic this is one of the few with a 'solved' at the end of it!

Making untrue or unsubstantiated accusations about a product can result in being banned from a topic or from AVSIM.  I think you know full well that uninstalling the Addon Manager would make the product worthless.

I also don't appreciate untrue or unsubstantiated accusations but let's move on... I didn't know that uninstalling the Addon Manager would make the product worthless; hence my question to the very knowledgable people of AVSIM. I think you can see from my post history on AVSIM that I'm actually free pro-FSDT and their products.

I think the developer has fully explained how the Addon Manager and Couatl works to keep FSDT and other developers like FlightBeam products working properly.  If you are getting intermittent freezes, look somewhere else.

Again, I apologise, but I haven't kept up with this stuff like I once would. I have Googled the issue and some bloke on the internet describing the exact same thing placed blame in a certain area.

I'll uninstall my FSDT products today and report back if that had any effect... I don't hold much hope considering Ryan's & your replies!

Many thanks for your input so far,

Mike

Only had freezes like that twice in my FSX career.

Once because I had autosave turned on in FSUIPC with the NGX, and another time because of Aerosoft EHAM which optimisation-wise is a total disaster of a scenery add-on.

The Addon Manager has been updated several times since September 2010.  Although the poster clearly stated uninstalling the addon manager fixed his problem I seriously doubt it really fixed his problem permanently (it's too bad the poster can no longer enjoy the FSDT airports!).  In any case, you could have tried that too before posting here.  It would have been better if you had posted that you "saw via a Google search that one individual solved his problem uninstalling the Addon Manager and I tried that but I still get 2-3 second freezes."  You see what I'm saying?  There was nothing in the OP that you tried this and that could have been an easy fix.

Whenever you have an issue with FSX, whether a freeze, intermittent freezes, or CTD's, you need to conduct an investigation.  Posting here at AVSIM is part of that investigation indicating some of the things you might have checked out.  There are things you can do at home such as looking at the Event Viewer to see if there are any events that might be affecting your system and thus, FSX.  Many members here run Process Monitor and/or Process Explorer to see what is loading when an event in FSX is happening.  Very useful tools.

Another thing you should do whenever you post a problem you are having is to provide us with your system specs.  Many of us put our specs in our profile (see mine on the sidebar on the left).  Some others place them in their signature.  Some post them inside the topic they started.

I have a very powerful system and installed a lot of photoscenery which I have located on separate HDD's from the SSD where FSX resides.  I was also getting 2-3 second intermittent freezes and it was extremely annoying.  I had just built the system and installed Windows 7 and FSX.  FSX was running great when I ran it in default mode with no addons!  I then started reinstalling the addons and suddenly I had the intermittent freezes.  I found I had my virtual memory (page file) setting set for Drive C only (i.e., just the SSD).  I decided to make a page file for all of my drives and the freezes totally disappeared.  I don't know if this will work for non-photoscenery too but it certainly worked for me.  IMHO, FSX works best when the Virtual Memory setting is set to "System Managed Size".

It has been written several times here at AVSIM that REX or AS2012 or OPUS textures should not be set at 4096 and should be set no higher than 2048.  Your Texture_Max_Load setting should also not be any higher than 2048 (which is HD).  Setting both to 4096 will only create major problems (maybe not in all FSX sessions but problems will eventually happen).  The same should go with FSDT settings you might have enabled when you installed your FSDT product.  If you have it set to always enable at 4096, change that to 2048.

If you have a lot of tweaks in your Fsx.cfg, suspect one of them as the cause of your intermittent freezes.  I used the following guide for setting up my FSX - http://www.simforums.com/forums/drivers-nv-inspector-fsxcfg-complete-guide_topic36586.html.  Like me he does not believe in a lot of tweaks, especially with modern computer systems.  I employ NO tweaks except that I have set my Texture_Max_Load to 2048 and my LOD_Radius to 6.5.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jim
