Airport Altitude Problem

Recommended Posts

The simplest fix is to place a copy of the afcad in Scenery\World\scenery.

Joe

Exactly what is the problem with your LIMJ ? It is a sea level airport!!!

Aircraft should not hover as shown in the pictures

Thanks for the tip Joe,but the afcad in the file will have to be removed,as you know multiple afcads cause CTD`s.

The funny thing is only ai aircraft hover, the default and add on`s are in the right place on the tarmac.

The other airport is Eastmidlands.

Cheers John at FAPE.

Thanks for the tip Joe,but the afcad in the file will have to be removed,as you know multiple afcads cause CTD`s.

Actually what I do know is that multiple afcads only cause CTDs under certain conditions.

Did you at least try my tip before dismissing it?

As Randy pointed out, ADE can fix these problems and it does so by placing a "stub" afcad in Scenery\World\scenery.

A stub afcad only contains minimal data such as the ICAO and the airport elevation.

You can accomplish the same thing by copying the afcad into S\W\s.

The only time that multiple afcads cause CTDs is when they have different Airport Reference Points(ARP). Obviously two copies of the same file would have the same ARP.

For some reason AI read the lowest priority airport elevation and ignore higher priority afcads that incorporate elevation changes.

Copying the addon afcad to S\W\s places it below the default airport data and forces AI to respect the elevation change.

I bet that if you disable all addons for those airports AI will sit on the ground. Following my advice will fix this issue for you as it has for many others before you.

Or learn how to fix it yourself with ADE.

Or learn to live with floating AI.

regards,

Joe

All you need to do is ensure that both the stock airport and addon airport have the same elevation. 3.96mtrs. Or raise or lower the addon.

Having said that I have ISD's Genova Sestri and they have a zero elevation set.

If you have the same try that. I don't have floating aircraft.

I understand that but of all the Airports i visit in my travels these two are the only ones with this problem, let me alter a few settings suggested and i`ll report back.

By the by iv`e looked for ISD`s LIMJ but cannot find it anywhere.

Yes ISD stuff is difficult to get hold of now as the don't exist anymore.

Do a general search amd try some of the "other" download sites!

Joe's right, mate. It's standard practice for solving floating (or burrowing) AI.

As he said, AI use the elevation of the first AFD file they find for the airport, working upwards from the bottom of the scenery layers.

3D scenery & player aircraft use the first AFD file they find working from the top down.

Also as he said, having identical AFD files doesn't cause CTD.

If you prefer to keep the AI-adjusting duplicates where you can find them, make a new scenery layer, at the lowest level you can get it (one up from the very bottom, call it 'Elevation corrections' and put a copy of your preferred AFD in there. If you get the layer in the right place it will lie below the stock airports in NAMC, EURW et c. and the AI will go for that one.

If you use ADE to make the correction, you will have another BGL to deal with in any case: it will be an elevation correction with an ARP identical to the AFD you just corrected (which won't cause CTD). If you prefer this method (which makes another 'duplicate'), the best place for it is in an elevation correction folder one layer up from the bottom, just as it would be for the straight copy.

D

The "rule" that you should never have two AFCAD files for the same airport is one of the biggest fallacies in the FS world.  The fact is that you should not have more than one AFCAD type file *in the same folder*, *with a different reference point*.  If the reference points are identical, or they reside in different scenery folders, no FS crash results.  I don't leave more than one in a given folder, since the exact reference point is not easy to check on a scan.

I have dozens of duplicate AFCAD files in my installation, and never get a crash due to that.  For example, I have the default KJFK, a modern KJFK in the Addon Scenery/scenery folder (to increase default parking), a 1962 KJFK in the Addon Scenery/Idlewild 1962 folder, and a 1958 KJFK in the Addon Scenery/Idlewild 1958 folder.  No crashes at Kennedy.  Three of those (default, modern, and either 1958 or 1962) are even all active at the same time.

Hope this helps,

I visited the site where i found my LIMJ and found multiple downloads mainly photoreal perhaps one of them corrects the airport altitude.

Once again thanks all.
