September 16, 201312 yr Am I missing something blatantly obvious, but shouldn't I be able to turn off the A/P by pressing the A/P button? The only way I can turn off the A/P is using the button on the yoke (or a shortcut key/controller-mapped button). Marko Milivojević

The only way I can turn off the A/P is using the button on the yoke (or a shortcut key/controller-mapped button). That's right (or you can right click the screw on the bottom left corner of the MCP) Steve Caffey
September 16, 201312 yr Am I missing something blatantly obvious, but shouldn't I be able to turn off the A/P by pressing the A/P button? Hi, Marko, You need to press the separate A/P Disconnect button located between the FLCH and HOLD buttons. But due to issues about silencing the A/P warning sound you might be better off using a mapped key or button (you need to press it twice a second or so apart to silence the alarm). Mike
September 16, 201312 yr Author Mike - that's what I was doing so far (not using the A/P disengage bar, rather the button on the controller), but I was under the impression that A/P button will simply turn it off. In my mind there seems to be a difference between "disengage" and "shutdown", but I suppose it's not so. Two things that were bugging me were resolved tonight. Not a bad Sunday. Thank you. Steve - thanks, too. Marko Milivojević

But due to issues about silencing the A/P warning sound you might be better off using a mapped key or button (you need to press it twice a second or so apart to silence the alarm). Mike As far as I recall the proper procedure though is to do it via the disengage button on the control wheel and not using the disengage bar. Unfortunately for me I can achieve that by pressing that button with the mouse but the key assignment "z" does nothing although it's properly mapped. Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
September 16, 201312 yr Author The proper key shortcut is Ctrl-Shift-Z. I believe "Z" is the equivalent of A/P button, which I learned in this thread is not the correct way to disengage the A/P. Marko Milivojević
September 16, 201312 yr the key assignment "z" does nothing although it's properly mapped. Krister, I have Z mapped to A/P off and Ctrl-Z mapped to A/P on. They both work fine. Are you mapping the keys through the 777 CDU setup function and NOT through FSX? Mike
September 16, 201312 yr Mike, yes mapped it through the 777 CDU and then assigned the key to a button on the yoke via FSUIPC. It works with the other add-ons and it worked once with the 777 but no more. Pressing "Z" on the keyboad doesn't give any results either. Not a biggie though, just haven't had the time to look for a fix. Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
September 16, 201312 yr There is a difference between a disconnect and a disengage... you should not touch the disengage bar during the course of a normal flight, in 777 nor in 737. --Peter Fabian
