CS100 First Flight!

Featured Replies

Nice!  So do you think it will every fly out of CYTZ ?

For those who don't live in Toronto, there is a big debate underway regarding extension of the runway at CYTZ by 500 meters to accomodate the CS100 which Porter Airlines has purchased.

From what I heard from people who were there for the first flight it was extremely quiet on takeoff... If this is true it might have a fighting chance at being allowed into CYTZ.

Hard to speculate. Porter has had a hard time getting permission to build a pedestrian tunnel and jets are a bigger political issue compared a short tunnel under that channel.

If they do get permission it would be interesting how it is worded. Would it be specific to this jet or have a technical specifications.

To be honest...whether or not Porter is allowed to fly this aircraft out of CYTZ isn't contingent upon the success of this program. We are only talking about one order here. This aircraft will need global success to properly compete with its competitors.

One operation out of a small island airport in Toronto isn't big enough business for Bombardier. They need to put this aircraft in much bigger markets to properly compete.

Currently it is the biggest order but they will need to sell a lot more then just to Porter.

There will also be a big opposition to that by the "green" people.

The current Mayor of Toronto isn't very 'Green' and last I heard he supports the jets.

Currently Canada has a Conservative Federal Government as well that supports this industry and will likely back this jet as well.

The Province of Ontario may not support this jet so that may be a stumbling block. They are a Liberal government and as this jet is made in Quebec and not Ontario, they don't have any reason to support it other then their is a Bombardier plant in Toronto that makes Dash 8's and Porter will grow its business against Air Canada and Westjet. Air Canada is Quebec Based and Westjet is Alberta Based, Porter is Ontario Based so that is in the interest of the Ontario Government I would think.

So if there was a chance for this jet to fly out of CYTZ the right people are in power at the moment. The Ontario Government will be the ones that will need persuasion, and they are currently gearing up for an election they will most likely lose.

Thanks for the info.  I stopped reading about politics here because the media likes to focus on scandals most of the time.

It's great to hear we have the right people in power at the moment in favor of the CS100.

You're right, I think the Conservatives are going to lose the next election.  The Liberals are really gaining strength.

You have excellent knowledge.  I'm in Toronto and you know far more about the politics here and surrounding areas than I do  .

Yes I live far away from Toronto but I used to go to Flight School at Toronto Island Airport back in 1996. So I do still follow what is going on back there.  B)

I am not one for politics either but I will follow how it effects Aviation. Sometimes Lobbyists are good, sometimes bad but it does have an effect on peoples lives that live and work in Aviation.

Would be good to see these jets fly in and out of Toronto Island Airport (now Billy Bishop Airport). Since they did manage to finally get a rail link underway to Pearson Airport and all the greenies fought that one, it shows things can happen in Toronto.

I've only been to the Toronto Island airport once a long time ago.  I think it was a Dash 8 that I boarded.  Must have been nice to have flight school there.  You must have had one hell of a time because it's so close to the downtown core.  So many things to do.

Glad to hear they got the rail link underway.  I heard about that but didn't keep up to date.  Going to be very busy if these new jets start flying at YTZ.  I hope everything goes well.  Would be nice to have jets there.
