September 22, 201312 yr The most difficult task in assembling parts for a my new Z87 rig is to find the right memory set ... I see an interesting set of memory (G.Skill Trident X Series 16 Go (2 x 8 Go) DDR3 2133 MHz CL9) online but with timings validated for the Z77 Express . It is not listed in the ASUS Qualified Vendor List. Does it spell trouble ? September 26, 201312 yr Just suggesting you go all the way with your title: "Extra QVL nulla salus." :-)
September 28, 201312 yr I am having the same problem here in Australia trying to source high speed low latency ram that is on the ASUS Maximus VI Hero QVL list, Few retailers seem to carry this stuff and those that do have no stock. Suggestions from fellow Aussies appreciated. Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. Bruceb ... which brings us to my initial question, can a stick of good standing, certified for the Z77, be used with the Z87 even if it is not on the holy QVL. What I read is rather positive on the matter. Does G.Skill provide motherboard makers with an extensive selection of ram modules to test and put on their motherboard QVL list. Or are we better of going to G.Skills website and see if the board is on the list for the ram module? A. We work with various motherboard makers and try to provide them with memory kits to test with when possible. However, they might not have all the latest models, so it's recommended to check both QVLs. As long as it's on either QVL, it's been tested by either us or the motherboard manufacturer. If it's not on either QVL, or if the QVL is very outdated, feel free to contact our tech support to check for compatibility." Searching for memory for an Asus Z87 board I found there were a lot more qualified motherboards on the G.Skill site than qualified memory on the motherboard manufacturers site. gb. YSSY. Thank you for this I think I may have found some ram that is on G. Skills QVL for the ASUS Hero and available from an Australian supplier. October 4, 201312 yr I went with some G.Skill Trident X F3-2133C9D-16GTX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 for an Asus Z87 Pro based on G.Skill's QVL. Building this weekend, fingers crossed. gb. YSSY. October 4, 201312 yr Author Good luck gb and keep us posted ! On a French site the F3-2133C9D-16GTX and F3-2133C9D-16GTX are almost at the same (high  ) price 167/173 € and it looks like they are compatible with my MB final choice the Asus PRO, according to the GSkill site. October 4, 201312 yr The build went well except for getting the H110 cooler into a Corsair 500R case. First boot no problems. One click change to XMP memory profile in BIOS and all is good so far with G.Skill's quoted speed and timings being set. Yeah! gb. YSSY. October 4, 201312 yr That's the same case as me. I had to drill out the screw holes in the top of the case to get them to line up with the H110. You obviously got it worked out though? -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
