Additional 2D pop ups

Featured Replies

Has there been any thought given to additional 2D pop up panels in future service packs?  I'm thinking maybe the overhead  and the throttle area? The current ones are just fine, but those two areas are used frequently and having to go through 2 or 3 other areas to get to them is a bit of a pain.  Not earthshaking, just a little inconvenient.

Having  to go thru 3   areas  to get  to them?   why don't  you try the space bar  and mouse   option

Adding the overhead and pedestal would be creating a full 2D panel set short of the main panel, wouldn't it?

(So, highly doubtful.)

The difference between the 2D popups implemented and the ones not implemented is:

- The ones that are either continually operated or monitored throughout the flight are included.

- The ones that are only needed during specific flight phases (OVH) and/or can be operated without having them in sight (throttles, speedbrake, flaps, ...) are not.

Pete.....

The space bar is useful in some situations but not all.

Kyle..........

Not in my view. There are other aircraft that have those pop ups but not a full 2D panel.

Oliver..........

Seems to me everyone operates a bit differently.  So, saying what's monitored or not during flight most likely changes with the Simmer.

Well, I think we can put this to rest.  I've used  F10 as a hot key for the o'head panel and can use the space bar/mouse to show the throttle area as I need it. That all works well for me, even if not 100% the way I wish it was.

Thanks to all for the various suggestions and comments.  It's always good to see other views even if we're not all in agreement about some areas.

i've been following your topic & it's replies with interest...as i have similar ones.

one question i would like to ask you is whether you use trackIR ... i can't understand how others can efficiently flick full screen VC views to the overhead for example as & when you need (a lot more often for my sop's than oliver suggests) if they use trackIR.

i must admit i am so used to parking the lds763 & ngx's 2D overhead / radio panels etc. on a 2nd monitor for "full time scanning" i don't think i'll ever get "comfortable" with the 77L's ideas.

for now, cheers

John..........

No, I don't use the trackIR.  I've read about too many problems regarding it (installation, setting up etc.). In reality, I think I'm just too set in my ways (lol). I was always satisfied with 2D popups on most PMDG aircraft until they began to change their outlook on panels.  I'm reasonably comfortable with the 737 NGX, since the popups provided are sufficient for my likes.  But, I'm like you on the 777.  Although I really like the aircraft and fly it quite a bit, I don't think I'll ever be completely comfortable with it and the 3d panel. As I said, I'm just too set in my ways.  The small change I made to the F10 key and the use of the space bar/mouse are some help but...............

It will be interesting to see what the final result of the next 747 version will be, panel wise..

You do realize that "pop ups" are simply 2D panels, yes?  For some reason, I think a lot of people think "pop ups" are some different animal entirely, and are easier to implement than 2D panels themselves.

Based on your post, the only thing you didn't ask for is the standard pilot view 2D panel.  If that's all you're leaving you, they might as well just do a full 2D panel set.  Again, their stance being what it is, I doubt anyone is getting any more 2D panels than what is currently present.

the sticky you referenced includes ... "We have included every 2D popup we thought WAS necessary".

i struggle with that thinking when i compare my scanning of an overhead vs that of the mcp when the later is mostly seen in the main VC window and its status shown on the PFD.

it is the overhead ... which i check regularly from taxi to finals (for switch / light annunciators / etc. status)... i can't see efficiently without "fluffing" around with keys & mouse (with or without ezdok), even if some of their status' can be seen on the lower DU's EICAS.

but then that's my way / ideas.

for now, cheers

I really almost want to say I hope the future products have zero 2D panels just so we don't have to get into these grey area arguments each time...

i can't "leave the gate without trackIR", just like that other essential in life !!

seriously though, i can see just as many can like you but was wondering how you might use trackIR with your hotkey idea.

i am because of trackIR more than happy with VC use (for many years now)... it does however have its limits (as does a mouse / space key) in a direct pan / scan to panels such as the overhead.

for now, cheers

Guys........

No one's going to change their minds about what they would "like" to have in a panel (or other elements), so why don't we all agree to disagree, where noted, and move on to something else. As I mentioned earlier, I do think it's a good thing to hear other peoples views.

I'm done with this.
