Adding FMC to Just Flight DC-8

Featured Replies

Has anyone had success adding the FMC and ISG panels to the JF DC-8 on a Windows 8 OS?

Successfully added ISG FMC (the Smiths model) to the JF DC-8, but on Windows 7 64 bit, not Win 8.

For the record, the ISG's LNAV function commands the Heading just fine (as one would expect, as the DC-8s autopilot is pure default FSX AP logic).

Thanks for the info Dave, I'll try that one when I have time.

No problem Ron.

I use FS Panel Studio to add gauges, but it's also pretty easy to add the FMC manually, as a pop-up.

Oh I should have clarified that actually;  I've got it in as a pop-up, not integrated into the VC, as there didn't appear to be any 'gauge space' built into the VC model, where it could go.

Just to add

I am sure that ISGFMC is much more accurate with more future, but you can use also vasfmc and it can be update to the latest Airac and is free.

Clearly, it's not a surprise Douglas disappeared. Such a lack of foresight to leave no space in a 1958 aircraft for an FMC!! ;-)

Clearly.

But we're talking about general panel space in a FS model, that's all.  No-one is (daring) to suggest that the DC-8 should have a FMC.

I reckon it would probably be easier to get a FMC into a real DC-8 than in the VC of an FSX model!

Blast from the past:- Currently flying the excellent feelThere ERJ135/145 v2, with new TSS ERJ HD soundpack and the 'no yoke' models. What a fantastic add-on this still is !

Dave,
Any way to use fspanel studio to create a 2d window for the autopilot? I am having a tough time switching windows while trying to keep the plane flying. Somehow, fspanel picks up only the heading, altitude and vc numbers. The panel itself seems to belong somewhere else.  I've opened the xml , yet I don't see a reference to the bmp files for the autopilot.

Something that should be easy is turning out to be very vexing...

Hi Tony,

Mmm, I saw the same thing.  I see this on more and more newer releases, where things look a little odd in FS Panel Studio.

A totally different strategy, but as the DC-8 uses the default FSX AP, you could assign keyboard shortcuts for the AP controls, then you can make changes without leaving your 'normal' view.

I use:-

AP Master: Z

Nav Hold: N

Hdg Hold: H

Appr:   Ctrl+A

Alt Hold:  K

Hdg Bug (-):  '['

Hdg Bug (+): ']'

Alt (-):  NUM-

Alt (+): NUM+

VS (-): NUM*

VS (+): NUM.

I've used these shortcuts for years in FS, so it's second nature for me to make AP changes without needing to access any awkward panels of VC views.     NB.   Some of those shortcuts I use, are used by FS for other things (such as carb heat), so those need to be re-assigned if desired.

Sorry I can't help with the panel though.

You're welcome Skip.  I'm discovering a number of 'classic' aircraft add-ons at the moment, mostly from around 4 years ago; including the feelThere ERJ (which is heaven without the Yoke in the way now!), the Maddog2010 Pro, and even the Wilco 737 EVO (yes I know, this one isn't to everyone's taste but I think it flies great).

Making a nice change to the usual suspects of :-  PMDG NGX, T7, MJC Q400, Airbus X Ext, Coolsky DC-9, etc!
