November 26, 201312 yr Hello Simmers, I recently purchased the Academic License for P3D v2. After some minor installation issues, I got the program loaded up, and I must say the graphics, coupled with the new shadows, are spectacular and drive the realism through the roof. That being said, I haven't invested much time in the program yet, due to some issues regarding delay and FPS. In FSX I can usually get (in the PMDG T7 with about half traffic and otherwise pretty high settings) about 7-8 FPS in a dense area. When I tried the default cub with practically no traffic and lower-than-FSX settings in the middle of Africa I couldn't even get a solid 7. There were no external programs running while trying this. There must be something I'm missing in the settings, though I'm not sure what (my FPS target is 20). The second and more pressing issue in the program is the input delay, which may or may not be related to the low FPS count. Basically, whenever I put in an input (viewpoint, pause, flight controls, etc...) via the keyboard or my yoke system it takes around two seconds for the input to take effect, making flight nearly impossible. Anyway, hopefully I can get these minor issues resolved so I can make the most of this great software. Thank you for any and all replies! November 26, 201312 yr At least for me, shadows have perhaps biggest impact, so fiddle with those. Your input lag seems strangely high, but check that you don't have triple buffering ticked. It eats GPU performance quite heavily, but it is also known to introdece input lag. So, that may be your problem which is magnified by the already lowish FPS.
November 26, 201312 yr Derek, It looks like you have a slightly older video card (like me). Try turning off Hardware Tesselation and restart. It made a MASSIVE difference for me (i.e. 6 vs 60). J

November 26, 201312 yr Shadows look awesome but are also eating frames for dinner (not to the extent that hardware tesselation was). About 20% tied up in shadows.
November 28, 201312 yr Author I'm still curious, though, as to why, with far less addons and what looks like lesser settings, my FPS are so low in the sim. Most say the FPS are at least the same. I believe these low FPS are almost directly related to the input lag. If anyone has any suggestions to this (perhaps in the settings), it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! November 28, 201312 yr I think that's simply due to your system (if your PC specs are still up to date). Not much you can do about that, apart from buying something new. P3D not only gets better with high end GPU's, it also simply NEEDS it. With lower hardware P3D will indeed run worse than FSX.

Probably because your CPU is more powerful compared to your GPU. Prepar3d is optimised like most modern 3D applications, which are more dependent on the GPU (which is far more powerful at parallel loads).
November 29, 201312 yr Moderator Without any question, it's your graphics card, in my opinion. No "mobile" graphics card is going to perform well, especially one this (relatively) old: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-540m/specifications Fr. November 30, 201312 yr I run an i7 3630qm and Geforce 650m card. It runs fine, in fact 30+ fps fine with tessellation on, autogen extreme, vegetation minimal (although extreme hardly touches the fps), volumetric fog on, and shadows off. If I turn on shadows it drops to 20-25fps. I have input lag also. There are some issues with the Windows Desktop and P3D that LMI is working to address. That's where your lag is coming from. I get input lag even if I'm getting 50fps. So there's some real issues they need to address.

December 6, 201312 yr Same problem here. FSX locked @15 FPS: relatively smooth P3D locked @15 FPS relatively smooth too, but the view is 1/2 second delayed I'm using Trackir, so Prepar3D is totally unplayable for me My GPU is a 1GB 6850M , load is near 100% most of the time. I'm pretty sure that it is caused by the GPU. There's simply no more space for the calculation of the view. ->Back to old, but loved FSX  Sebi Regards, Sebastian
December 6, 201312 yr That's it - I have better FPS now but still the lag. Does full screen mode help? Hey I also run a laptop similar to yours. I think it's erroneous and a shame that an elite member here would suggest that a mobile graphics card can't run P3D... Facts speak otherwise. Anyway, you my be able to reduce input lag or stuttering a bit by disabling the pilot g effects. You will have to do this in the prepar3d.cfg file. I recently started another thread that gives to interim suggestions to help kill stutter. Fullscreen may also actually cause more lag and stutter. If the fps get too low, go to windowed mode and drag the window to a smaller size. P3D is very stable and shouldn't give you any issues in that regard. I also suggest running in 1280x720 mode with that processor. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/428290-2d-panel-view-seems-to-kill-stutters/#entry2872274
