January 4, 200521 yr FS Live Traffic has made my home airport KOAK is a bustling class C...as it should be. I have to check before crossong/entering intersections, ATC Ground is giving traffic hold instructions to allow other traffic to move along the taxiways...its GREAT!!!But in the air its a whole other story! *Problem number one is it seems ATC approach provides no sequencing and seperation. Planes are coming in at times in bunches of 3, with less than a mile seperation. *Problem number two is that small GA/experimentals are being allowed to land on the main runway 29 instead of the GA runways 27L & R. So these little guys are slowing the approach pace down to 90-110kts...not good when 90% of the traffic is at 140-180kts. This bunches all the AI up and forces ATC Tower to constantly send the AI on "Go-arounds". The "Go-around" traffic then stacks up with the new inbound traffic making the approach course even worse. With KSFO across the bay the airspace over the Bay is horrid, my TCAS is going crazy! It looks like a air raid over San Francisco and Oakland...but my FPS is great!!!!I know I can lower the traffic settings, but i want to know if there are any other options. What I need most of all is ATC that can provide sequencing and proper aircraft seperation. Something to give AI and myself speeds to maintain, vectors to delay us, etc.By the way, you should have saw the sweet leap frog I did on a Beechcraft Baron while on the ILS29 in my PMDG 737-700 :) TCAS went crazy, I trottled up, over flew him until TCAS said he was clear, cut the trottle, pushed the nose over, throttled back up and caught the glide scope again perfectly! The glide slope was past full deflection high. I greased the landing and got off the activ ein enough time for the slow poke to not have to go around...that AI ought to be thankful wake turbulence isnt modeled :) Not bad manual control for only flying it for a week and a half.
January 4, 200521 yr Yes FSlivetraffic has potential to be a great ai addonn, right now some of the ga models are just awfull, a four year old kid could have made them look better, i know fps is a major concern, but the models included are very bad made.Another thing is that many of the planes are cruising around at 80000 feet, first i thought wow it must be the spaceshuttle, what a dissapointment it was when i saw it was a 737 :D.I dont think anything can be done about all the goarounds when theres alot of traffic, not even when multiple runways are in use, FS9 just cant handle it.OHN
January 4, 200521 yr OHN,That's interesting concerning your comment of planes cruising at FL800. I downloaded the FSLive demo to check it out and decided to uninstall it. I already had MyTraffic2004 installed and it provided all the AI traffic I needed. I later installed the upgraded version of MyTraffic2004 as well as several packages from PAI. Now I am hearing ATC bark instructions to 737 AI pilots to "expedite your climb to FL937" and "expedite your climb to FL737". I thought MyTraffic2004 had caused the problem but now I'm thinking it was FSLive based on your comments. Does anyone know what file I need to edit to lower the FL of the AI aircraft? Thanks for any assistance.Jim
January 4, 200521 yr That is probably a bug in the software that will be fixed at some point. How and I state "HOW" I think the software works is that it gets its data from a live database of flights and then FSLive runs some software which looks at the data and converts it into a traffic file that FS2004 understands. Now for some reason some of the flight level data is getting misunderstood and I also know from my experience that Air Nav systems knows about it. Burkhard who designed MY Traffic I believe also designed the software for FS Live so he is probably getting feedback from Air Nav about these problems and FS Live users will probably get an update to the software with bug fixes in. One thing I noticed is at La Guardia some of the Dash 8s are in Island Air livery which normally are only found in Hawai and the surrounding islands, which means that some of the aircraft in FS Live are being wrongly assigned in the software also. What I would love to see for FS LIve is a programme which is very much like the one in Ultimate Traffic and that is a utility that you can assign other models, Aardvark, Fspainter, Project AI, etc to replace the models that are in FSLive already. Some are ok but I would like somehow to replace them if I could.Craig
January 5, 200521 yr As I see it and I may be wrong, but isn't FSLive only accurate for when you start. It doesn't update with the latest data as you fly. Is this correct?RegardsRussell Jourdain (NZL007/ZK-RHJ)
January 5, 200521 yr Ok, I did some more ATC tests with FS Live Traffic. Once again I had it at 100% and watched the traffic at KOAK at about the same time as before, 7pm Pacific. I watched two 737s com ein on approach. They were spaced just about 2.5-3nm apart. Not bad, but certainly pushing it. To my surprise though I watched as the gap between them increased. No ATC instructions to provide the spacing but i wasnt complaining. By the time the first 737 was on short final the two 737s were about 5 nm apart...FANTASTIC!But this is where the real problem began. The 737 touches down and almost comes to a complete stop, it then crawls down the runway to the nearest taxiway at a snail's pace. All the spacing meant nothing, the 737 behind it had to go around, thus the beginning of the great KOAK ILS29 bunch up! A smaller but contributing issue is that FS2004 doesnt realize that KOAK has to operating fields. The Intl with 29 and North Field with 27 R & L. This means extra traffic in the form of GA aircraft are mingling with airliners all on 29. This means traffic that would normally be landing at the same time on separte runways may actually be trying to land all on 29...causing more back ups due to multiple planes(Airliners and GA/business jets) on the approach in close proximity and the GA aircraft approaching at much less than 140kts.:-sun1 I figure if I can get the AI to have a faster taxi speed I may be able to minimize the bottle necks. The jury is still out on the ATC sequencing and seperation issue...but Im beginning to lean toward the runway squatters as the main problem. The alleged lack of sequencing and seperation may be just compounding the issue with trying to fit in the "go-arounds"!
January 5, 200521 yr That is correct. Which isnt a bad thing...its much more accurate than anything else out there. We got to get AI and perhaps ATC to work better in game.
January 5, 200521 yr An air raid huh? :-lol I think the price is the biggest issue most people have with this product. Combine that with FS9 AI/ATC handling processes, or lack thereof, and it deters me from the product completely. Until MSFS can handle large amounts of traffic, I'm not going with anything more that UT. Nothing is more aggravating than a plane landing and practically stopping on the runway taking 2 minutes to exit the runway. I've always said I hope the biggest fixes in the new FS are AI and ATC.I can't imagine how the TCAS sounds:"Traffic Traffic""Climb, Climb Now!""Descend, Descend""Traffic Traffic""Maintain Vertical Speed""Descend, Descend Now!":-lol - Chris Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | Intel Core i9 13900KF | Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB | 64GB DDR5 SDRAM | Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling | 1TB & 2TB Samsung Gen 4 SSD | 1000 Watt Gold PSU | Windows 11 Pro | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Thrustmaster TCA Captain X Airbus | Asus ROG 38" 4k IPS Monitor (PG38UQ) Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard | Intel i7 4790k CPU | MSI GTX 970 4 GB video card | Corsair DDR3 2133 32GB SDRAM | Corsair H50 water cooler | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (2) | EVGA 1000 watt PSU - Retired
January 5, 200521 yr The price isnt that bad. $55 sounds bad, but considering the software is downloadable for free you can subtract its value from the over-all cost...I'd say $20-30. So Im actually paying $35 or so for 6 months...thats just under $6 dollars a month after purchase cost. If i dont like it I unsubscribe and see about using the stored data over the 6 months to have a pretty good representation of daily traffic with little to no FPS impact at 100%.
January 5, 200521 yr "What I need most of all is ATC that can provide sequencing and proper aircraft seperation. Something to give AI and myself speeds to maintain, vectors to delay us, etc."Say your prayers and hope it is included in Fs2006. I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
January 5, 200521 yr Im from across the Bay...so yeah I guess I sorta am. I do live in Oakland and grew up in the area.

January 6, 200521 yr Oh, no...sorry. But I have a huge respect for Bob Marley. The messages in his music has had a profound impact on me. I also had dreadlocks for a while. It all seemed to fit, so I adopted the name*:-* I think my grandmother or great-grandmother was West Indian though.
