Heading Select and Course problem

Featured Replies

Well, I've been doing this for 30 years and always seems to be something.

For some reason I can't get the Heading and Course Bugs to move, other than sync. I have tried clicking everywhere in different modes, ground and in the air. Tried clicking around the Heading Knob and Heading Select Knob plus Course Select Knob and neither moves other than they will both sync.

Any ideas appreciated...Thanks

Jim,

On autopilot panel (Pg 7 and 9) Elec. flight info system pdf.

Hint: Left mouse click the word "Collins" in the upper right corner of the autopilot panel. Left click it a second time to close new window.

Left click HDG/CRS center of knob to center current (bug) or just roll mouse wheel to select HDG/CRS (bug).

Thanks guys for the quick responses, I think I will have to call the Avionics Technician.I found that for the Course Needle, the only way I can get it to turn is Expand the EHSI/CDI indicators, then rotate the mouse wheel over the "VOR1" label. This will not work unless the indicator is expanded. No joy on the Heading Bug yet but will keep trying. Just accidently found the deal with the Course Needle, but probably not the correct way to do it.Jim

Ahh...just found a way, LOL...By moving the wheel over either the HDG, NAV, ALT, ALT SEL selector, the Heading Bug moves...bizarre

Jim,

If you think it will help I could do a short video of what I see .. sometimes it helps.

Everyone's system can be slightly different .. zoom levels ... programs running etc.

That all combined with a new aircraft can show various bugs.

You've got to do it on the actual HDG or CRS knobs, either between the seats

or in the autopilot popup.

Jim,

What is your FSX "default" flight?

Are you loading a "saved" flight prior to loading the Carenado 1900D?

vonmar,I generally load a fsx stock aircraft first, but at the location I want to fly from, then once it is loaded, load my 3rd party aircraft (Carenado or other). This is the first plane that has acted this way. Just loaded the SP1 but still the same. The only way the heading bug or course will change is by the method selected above, and BOTH popups have to be on screen to work, will not work with only the A/P control panel, the EFIS indicators must be popped up to (Shift+3 and Shift+4.Strange yeh??Ideas? Thanks much, Jim

Let me correct just a little, to move the heading bug, only the A/P has to be popped up Shift+4. At that point the bug will move using the mouse wheel over the A/P HDG or ALT buttons only. I tried this without the popup over the same buttons on the pilots panel, but did not move the but, must be popped up....bizarre. Thus far Carenado has not replied. The above for the course needle is correct, both popups must be on screen.Jim

OK - let me understand this..

If you pop up the autopilot, can you not adjust the HDG and CRS knobs with the mouse wheel

on the popup?

Also, in the above, what does the ALT button contribute?

Jim,

I did a short video to show you what I see while using the mouse left click and wheel to change HDG / CRS knobs.

Thank you for your assistance, thoughts and prayers...

I can't explain it, but when I try to rotate either knob whether in the popup or pedestal, they just won't rotate. In fact with the popup, you move the mouse over to the side of either knob like vonmar did on the video, the mouse arrow turns to a hand, then rotating the wheel, the hand goes away while rotating the wheel, but nothing moves.

So then, again on the A/P panel popup, I move the mouse over either the HDG or ALT button, move the wheel, and the HDG bug moves like it should. just won't do it near the knob.

Then for the Course needle, I popup the EFIS indicators, move the mouse over where it says VOR 1 on the EHSI, and the Course needle will move when you turn the mouse wheel.

At least I can get them to move, just not how you are supposed to.

I was hoping installing SP1 might cure it, may have to reload everything as no one else seems to have the same problem.

Using a high end gaming machine with windows 7 and 64 bit.

Thanks again guys, Jim

JIM,

What is your Windows Operating system?

Which version of MSFS are you using?

This is truly weird...

First, like in the video, turn off Instrument Reflections

Then pop up the autopilot panel.

If you mouse click on the HDG and CRS knobs, do the

heading bug and course needle center on the EHSI?

This should work.

Secondly, no need to move to the edge of the knobs to rotate.

On the popup, the mouse wheel on the center of the knob is all

it takes.

If you like, you can send me a PM with your email address, and I can send you

a modified EHSI that has mouse areas on the bottom corners,

for convenience.  But given the issues that you are describing, I have

no idea if this will work cleanly on your system..

I have a sneaking suspicion that something is not right on your rig

if mouse spots can re-locate at will. Are you overclocking?

And are you running FSX SP2 or Acceleration?

Just sent you a PM Bert, thanks much.

FSX SP2 = Yes

Overclocking or Acceleration = No

  • 3 weeks later...

I do have same problem as Jim. I do what the video tells to do. And when I am using the mouse wheel my trim goes up and down but the heading bug is not moving... I am able to center the bugs but not able to move them! I have SP2 Acceleration, no overclocking, os Windows Vista 64.
