SimConnect has beaten and battered me until I can no longer keep quiet. Here is the story:

Server and Client-Firewalls disabled

Server and client UAC "off"

Server and Client ..firewall set to allow AS2012, ASN, REX 4 Textures, Rex with O/D even though firewalls turned off

Checked and rechecked SimConnect.cfg, Simconnect.ini, the .htm, etc

Permissions all set---files can be read or written, copied or pasted  across the network (both ways)

Still....cannot connect with any of them even though they can read flight plans, and other data from the server.

Never had anything like this before and until a new Pc all worked across the network.

FSX Deluxe with Acceleration

Can anyone shed any light on this? At this point I am totally out of any other things to do.

\Regards to all

Based on what you have written above, my best guess is that the sim-connect config file on one or more machines is improperly configured.

Win7 Ultimate on one PC Win7 Pro on the other. Logs show that  ASN/AS2012 are getting through most startup stages. Both connecting to the Server FSX Data location, flight plans etc. but then stop.

Checked SimConnect versions. Both PCs have same three versions.

I was just told to review disabled "SERVICES" in case the wrong one has been disabled. Will get to that later today.

Post your S.C. ini and cfg files.

No services disabled that affect SimConnect. Cannot think of anything else to try. Jim:Here are the files. each copied from the proper locations (Data folder, Documents...\FSX Files, My docs for Client):

Sincerely hope you find something wrong.

Forgot to include that the error that keeps popping up is:

Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

Are you certain port 500 isn't being used by another application, AS Connect for example, that you should have setup to use port 445. If its trying to use 500 as well then that's why its not connecting, only one program can use a port at any one time.

Cheers, Andy.

I have tried 450, 500, 1450, 1500, 1600, and several others and get the same error message every time. I have already forgotten how to check port status but will get on that next.

Is it possible that re-running the SimConnect.msi on both PCs will solve anything? I seem to recall that it will not fix anything but am willing to try.

Thank you all for the input.

Neil,

If you still have the SDK installed on the client, run the AI Traffic utility on the client with FSX running in a flight on the server. What happens to the AI Traffic window.

Posted

Window (DOS) pops up, stays about 20 seconds and then closes.

I have tried it every time any changes made to files....always the same.

That means that the SimConnects on the 2 machines are not communicating.

Try with the IP address and not the name of the computer.

Both computers belong to the same network?

Tried both Jim and still no connect. Network is ok. Another two hours today checking and testing inbound/outbound rules, open ports, and anything else that popped into my mind. What really bugs me is that six months ago I had a perfect network: AS2012, REX, and a couple of others working great.

Built a new PC, moved the original over as client and have not been able to get anything using simconnect to work.

Only basic difference is that the new pc has Win7 Pro and the other has Ultimate.

Maybe it is just time to forget networking and fly on the main rig.

So do both computers belong to the same named network?

Posted

According to the Network icon on task bar they are both on the same network. I also looked at the network map and it shows the two connected by a link (both are wired to the router, not wireless) Lots of Ports are "Listening" so I tried half a dozen. Still nothing.

EFB, Radar Contact, PlanG, Input Director, FSCopilot all work from the client. Only the SimConnect programs are not.
